Good Saturday, everyone. A ton of rain has fallen across the region over the past several days and the wet weather continues into the start of the weekend. From there, we focus on another potent system moving in early next week, bringing more storms and a taste of September temps.
Rounds of showers and storms will be out there today, especially in the central and east. Given how much rain has fallen of late, it won’t take much more water to cause local flooding issues to develop, so watch the creeks and streams.
Track away…
Sunday looks a little better with a partly sunny sky and just some scattered storms. The best threat of storms will be across the southern half of the state.
A very potent storm system develops in the Mississippi Valley on Monday and slides into the Great Lakes, bringing a strong cold front into our region by Tuesday. Showers and thunderstorms increase during this time, with the potential for more high water issues and a few severe storms…
That’s a setup you just don’t see this time of year… You just don’t.
The air behind this front is much cooler than normal, bringing us a taste of mid and late September temps…
Afternoon temps will likely stay way down in the 70s for a day or two…
Overnight lows make a run toward the low 50s on a couple of mornings. Bring. It. On.
Have a great day and take care.
Why is there always a cold spot on temperature maps just north of Maysville KY? It looks as though there is a 50 mile diameter circle that looks to be 20 degrees cooler than the area surrounding it.
Finally raining in Harlan this morning. We sure have had a lot of fog this August so far……a bad winter to come?? A lot of the older generation always said to tally each day in August that was foggy as a snow day for the upcoming winter. Although this saying is folklore and not exactly science based, I have noticed there seems to be some correlation over the years. Could science prove this theory based upon weather patterns? Thoughts?
Louisville is now at 9th wettest summer (Jun-Aug) on record
Thanks Chris. Rained this morning but not yet this afternoon. Radar looks like it won’t be long though. Stay safe and keep an eye on streams and creeks near you everyone. Thanks again Chris for all you do.
Richmond got hit three different times by heavy rain today. Very impressive.
Looks like you are about to see # 4 with new development moving from the north here soon.
I have 12 fogs already in Ashland area in my experience its pretty equal to snows! Almanac prediction is 18 considering we have 2 weeks to go i bet on at least 6 more fogs!
