Good afternoon, everyone. I wanted to drop by for a quick update on the interesting weather rolling our way in the week ahead. It’s becoming more and more likely that the 4th tropical system of the year will impact the weather across Kentucky. That will be followed by some cold fall air settling into our region. Woot!
Before we get to all that, we have a few storms going up this afternoon and evening. Any storm that’s out there can put down a lot of rain…
Michael to be is developing in the Caribbean and is will work into the Gulf of Mexico this weekend…
That system heads toward the coast by Tuesday then gets drawn northward by an approaching major fall front. I made this map on Friday and I’m still rolling with it…
The combination of an approaching front and a tropical system meeting up on us could bring another big rain event to much of the bluegrass state.
The operational models are now similar to the map I made…

The new version of the GFS
The Hurricane Models are bending back to the west from their original forecast…
So, we have a very interesting setup with a tropical system being entrained into a true fall cold front. This has the potential to bring significant rains our way for Wednesday and Thursday. The weather turns chilly behind this, with cold weather following another system next weekend.
Enjoy the rest of your day and take care.
So…we stand a good chance for 5 inches or more of rain next week…anyone surprised??!! No…I didn’t think so☺
With current track record this year-to-date, I believe we will reach 70 inches plus of rain by 12/31/18 IN MOST AREAS ANYWAYS
Where do you get 5 inches of rain or more?
Mostly GFS based but WPC showing 5 inches or more IF the low tracks into KY as shown above. EURO has the heaviest a bit south but isnt realistic as the front will eject “Michael” northward. Time will tell but either KY or close by will get a lot and 5 inches plus will be easy from this setup. You know the waffling though, one day KY will be target while we may not tomorrow to find again we are in line by Monday.
Nothing screams Autumn like spending an afternoon at the WV Pumpkin Festival, drinking a hot cup of apple cider in the 90 degree heat/humidity. Gotta love Fall in the Ohio Valley.
Yeah and maybe tonight you can build a bonfire to enjoy especially with these chilly Autumn temperatures we are experiencing.
In all seriousness though next weekend looks ideal for pumpkin picking and bonfire’s
I hope so. I am so over this humidity.
Yes, OMG it has been ridiculously hot for this time of year! The warm might be nice for some, but the high heat index has been exhausting! And I have never seen such rain, it’s been like living in a rainforest!
