Severe Weather Tracker

Good Saturday everyone. We have a windy and warm day taking shape across the state as a cold front and low pressure works in from the west. This will set the stage for the possibility of severe thunderstorms this afternoon into the evening.

Damaging winds and large hail will be the primary threats with the boomers that go up today. These storms will be working from west to east across the region. I have you all set to track today’s possible severe storms…

Here are your storm tracking tools…

I will have updates as needed and will be sending out rapid fire updates via twitter. Have a great Saturday and take care.

    SevereThunderstorms headed for Louisville metro!

A large, severe thunderstorm over southern Indiana is headed directly for the Louisville metro area. With all of the Derby Festival acitivities going on this evening, this storm will post a dangerous threat and shelter should be sought out before 8pm! This severe storm will not only produce ample, deadly lightning, but large hail up to the size of baseballs, as well as straight line winds of 70mph or more. Prepare to take shelter now!

AT 643 PM EDT…NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR WAS TRACKING A

THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS STORM. IF IT STAYS SEVERE…IT WILL IMPACT
THE LOUISVILLE WATERFRONT AND DOWNTOWN AREAS AROUND 8 PM. AT LEAST

EXPECTED WITH THIS STORM. PERSONS OUTDOORS SHOULD TAKE SHELTER.

    * THIS STORM WILL ALSO IMPACT…
    DOWNTOWN LOUISVILLE

    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

BE AWARE THAT A GUST FRONT PRECEDING THIS STORM WILL GENERATE STRONG
AND GUSTY WINDS WELL BEFORE THE ARRIVAL OF ANY RAIN.

STRONG WINDS WITH THIS STORM CAN TOPPLE WEAKLY ROOTED TREES…AND
DOWN POWER LINES. TAKE PRECAUTIONS NOW TO SECURE TRASH CANS…LAWN
FURNITURE AND OTHER LOOSE OUTDOOR OBJECTS. MOTORISTS IN HIGH PROFILE

Looks like it’s dying out quickly now. Three rounds of storms and not a storm in our area in a good 4 weeks or more. Have had a little rain. Not as much as other areas lately though.

  7. feederband says:

Had golfball sized hail near Iroquois Park in the metro. Gusty winds to 55 mph, estimated from limbs down.

  8. Aaron C. says:

I dont see how storms won’t be possible tomorrow, given the front hasn’t cleared here yet, and the boundary is still to the north and not making any headway south. We could use a little rain here, anyhow.
