Good evening, everyone. We continue to track a big storm system toward the region as It rolls our way for late Halloween and Thursday. This will bring heavy rain and high winds to the region, with the greatest threat for the worst of the weather across the west and central.
A Flood Watch has been issued for much of the region from Halloween through Friday morning. Here’s a look…
That matches up well with the map I first put out several days ago…
The European Model continues to spit out some very concerning totals. The latest run hits the 7″ mark across parts of east-central Kentucky…
Flooding and flash flooding issues are both possible across the highlighted areas. Please stay alert to rising water worries.
Winds are also a major player over the next few days. Gusts may reach 40mph on Halloween with gusts of 50mph or greater possible Thursday into Thursday night.
Much colder air sweeps in behind this system for Friday with another system rounding the bend of the deep trough on top of us. That keeps chilly showers going through the day and into Saturday morning…
That moves away very quickly, with another shower maker moving into the western half of the state as early as late Saturday. Another powerhouse of a storm system by Tuesday and Wednesday…
That could be another major rain, storm and wind maker for our region. Behind that? The bottom falls out…
The first true winter signals are showing up as we get deeper into November.
Enjoy the rest of the day and take care.
WOW. I am not sure I am buying no rain in SE KY. It will likely be much less than the rest of the state but the latest EURO seems too concentrated. I think the heavy rain will be more spread out in Central and Western KY than that but I guess we will see in less than 48 hours!
I think you are in a similar area to me in relation to higher mountains to your east. When storms come from the west or northwest we get warming/drying southeast wind coming down the mountains that wipes out the precip. That’s why we get shafted so much with clippers in the Winter.
True for sure. We do best with App Runners for our big snows in our areas. Every once in a while and only IF a clippers dives from NW to SE at the right angle, we get a lot in Harlan but usually pitiful amounts due to drying☹
Hopefully, a weak El Nino and some blocking this winter may actually favor more snow for us or at least put us on an equal playing field to areas farther west into KY and surrounding states.
I agree, the biggest snowstorms for my area back 78, 87,93 and 96 all came from the south. Usually from the Florida panhandle up to about the Norfolk Va area. I try not to get to excited by the northwest flow systems, they are almost always a non-event for me, but sometimes in a snow starved Winter, it’s hard not to.
We were starved to death last year Jimbo but i have higher expectations for this winter. I mean, it can’t be much lower than last year!
