Good afternoon, folks. It’s a pretty nasty looking and feeling day with rain, gusty winds and chilly temps in control. As we head into the evening, the numbers get even colder with a few flakes of snow possible across central and eastern Kentucky. That will be followed up by a winter storm system moving our way early next week.
As always, we start with the precious present. Steady rains continue to push across the east and will slowly end later this afternoon. A gusty shower or sprinkle will still be possible into the early evening…
A weak system dives in here this evening into the wee hours of Saturday morning, bringing the potential for a few flurries or a light snow shower.
Saturday continues to look very cold temps in the 20s to start, with wind chills deep in the teens. Sunshine won’t do much for us in the afternoon with highs in the 30s.
Our next weather maker is a developing winter storm by Monday and Tuesday. This continues to take on the look of a snowfall for parts of Kentucky and surrounding states. Both the GFS and Canadian are showing a swath of decent snows on top of us…

I will have a “best chance for snowfall” map on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm. I will also have an update later today, so check back.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
I’m excited about the first flakes, but I do dread that wind chill.
I might have to make a pot of chili.
NWS Jackson says for Mon-Tues lows in Mid 30’s and highs in 40’s..with minimal if any snow. (Zonal for Rowan Co). Gonna be interesting.
I agree, I think this may be getting amped up a little bit to get the blog going. I usually don’t do this but I am going to side with NWS on this one.
Bad, foolish decision.
We shall see about that
If so, that’s an absolutely horrible forecast.
I agree!. I think everyone, well not you, plays it too safe. Plus, weather apps also change by the minute based only on a model run. You know your stuff and models are all over the potential for more than flakes or just mix only next week:)!
Thanks for all you do!
Looks like the dreaded cold chasing rain..Models have shifted NW..Maybe western parts can see some flakes..Still early in November so no surprise…
Guys you better take Chris advice, it doesn’t get any better what he has been harping about the snow potential for the last week. That’s why I love reading what he expects to happen.Even know I live far western part of ky he’s the best at was he does .LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW
Lexington Bluegr-a-s-s airport is now just over 64 inches year to date. Less than 3 inches is needed to make all-time most precip in a year. Surely this will happen with this pattern we are in.
NWS plays it conservative from this far out. They will mention the possibility of wintry weather in the discussions, but as far as putting in the zone forecasts they wait until closer to the event. It may change over to some snow showers before the system pulls away but I’ll be surprised if we get any accumulation this early in the season.
NWS LMK put the possibility on their site. They usually wait until closer to the event before putting anything out.
It can happen. Back in the late fifty’s here in Southern Ohio where I live we had around 3 inches in early November. There was enough to sleight ride on. But it seemed a lot of time when you got early snows that were like that the winter as a whole turn mild. We shall see.
Surely, we’re not talking about accumulating snow at this point. Right?
