Good evening, folks. Old Man Winter is showing up tonight in the form of cold winds and a few flurries and snow showers. This is a little big of a tease to a potentially bigger system coming early next week. That one brings the chance fro accumulating snows to parts of the state.
Let’s begin with the action we are seeing right now. A weak system is diving in here on a strong northwesterly wind flow. That is producing flurries and a few snow showers as it rolls in…
I can’t rule out a rooftop or two picking up on a hit and run coating.
Frigid temps drop into the low and middle 20s for many, with gusty winds making it feel MUCH colder. The day may start with wind chills around 10 degrees in a few areas…
Highs on Saturday will be in the 30s with mostly sunny skies taking over. Gusty winds continue to make it feel colder.
Clouds thicken on Sunday as we await the impact from a developing winter storm early next week. That storm develops in the deep south and rolls up the east coast Monday into Tuesday. Rain and a mix of rain and snow moves in Monday, with a swath of snow taking over Monday night and Tuesday…
That’s the GFS that, as expected, shifted much farther north and west from what it had been showing. That southeast bias of the model is VERY common, so it should be pretty easy for any forecaster to correct.
The European Model has a bias the other way. It holds on to southwestern energy too long, thus showing a stronger low too far north and west. That model is also shaking off the bias and is trending east and south…
Here’s the area I’m highlighting for the best chance to pick up on, at least, some light accumulating snows late Monday and Tuesday…
I will update that as I get a better handle on the setup through the weekend. Enjoy the rest of your evening and take care.
There Chris goes breaking hearts for far SE KY…lol. Like clockwork, every model seems to be going NW towards Ohio Valley. Poor SE KY!
Not to fear Terry, this won’t be the last “rug pulled from beneath our feet” so to speak this winter which is why I no longer will be fooled by or put faith in any model even from 12 hours out.
It is awful, but I about wonder if we don’t get more from this tiny system tonight than on Tuesday down in our area due to the NW trend putting us in on the warm side of the arctic front longer…lol☺
That little disturbance may be enhanced a little by orographic lifting when it comes through around 3:00 to 6:00AM tonight.
I think thats a great forcast for snow but i have a feeling its going to end up a little more north and west.
Thanks Chris. Well I will say this. As early as it is, I will be happy just to see some good snow showers. Maybe it will prime things for a little later! Have a good night everyone. CHRIS, if that line should move further east, we would not complain….. 😉
“I like it like that”
Snow to Owensboro!!!
