Good evening, folks. Old Man Winter is showing up tonight in the form of cold winds and a few flurries and snow showers. This is a little big of a tease to a potentially bigger system coming early next week. That one brings the chance fro accumulating snows to parts of the state.

Let’s begin with the action we are seeing right now. A weak system is diving in here on a strong northwesterly wind flow. That is producing flurries and a few snow showers as it rolls in…

I can’t rule out a rooftop or two picking up on a hit and run coating.

Frigid temps drop into the low and middle 20s for many, with gusty winds making it feel MUCH colder. The day may start with wind chills around 10 degrees in a few areas…

Highs on Saturday will be in the 30s with mostly sunny skies taking over. Gusty winds continue to make it feel colder.

Clouds thicken on Sunday as we await the impact from a developing winter storm early next week.  That storm develops in the deep south and rolls up the east coast Monday into Tuesday. Rain and a mix of rain and snow moves in Monday, with a swath of snow taking over Monday night and Tuesday…

That’s the GFS that, as expected, shifted much farther north and west from what it had been showing. That southeast bias of the model is VERY common, so it should be pretty easy for any forecaster to correct.

The European Model has a bias the other way. It holds on to southwestern energy too long, thus showing a stronger low too far north and west. That model is also shaking off the bias and is trending east and south…

Here’s the area I’m highlighting for the best chance to pick up on, at least, some light accumulating snows late Monday and Tuesday…

I will update that as I get a better handle on the setup through the weekend. Enjoy the rest of your evening and take care.
