Good evening, folks. Our winter storm is bringing snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain to the bluegrass state. This mess is causing some issues across parts of the region. The freezing rain is really adding up across parts of central Kentucky and is the focus of the next several hours.
Some very quick thoughts before I get to your tracking tools:
- Freezing rain and sleet are combining forces to create hazardous conditions in the areas I have been outlining. The area will change to mainly rain later tonight and early Friday.
- Southeastern and far southern Kentucky is mainly dealing with rain.
- Western Kentucky is getting snow and a light mix. Several inches of wet snow may accumulate in the far west.
- The snow from the west slowly works eastward on Thursday and reaches eastern Kentucky by late afternoon into the evening. This may bring light accumulations to much of central and eastern parts of the state.
Here are your tracking toys for the storm…

How much ice are the models showing from this?
Thanks Chris. You know, you may just have a busy winter with is starting early! Maybe…Be careful and stay safe out there everyone!
This place used to get 100s of comments anytime an ice/snow event came through.. what gives?
Was wondering the same thing.
Also any of that precip falling in Ohio yet ? On the radar but wondering if’s actually falling
Everyone stay safe.have a gut feeling this is just the beginning of an interesting winter
After a little bit of sleet and freezing rain, now we have a dry pocket right over Eastern KY! lol #typical
I hope we get enough wrap around leftovers plus enough cold way down in SE KY to at least dust us this early on season tomorrow night! When Louisana gets first snow before SE KY, we know we have to play catch up…lol☺
From Mesonet…check out the recent to date rainfall for the state….several of us are over 60 inches heading towards 70 inches….Black Mt working towards 80 inches of rain….over 6 weeks of the year left!!!

Just rain in north Richmond so far. No current sign of frozen stuff.
No ice is NICE!
More snow, the merrier!
“Southeastern and far southern Kentucky is mainly dealing with rain.”…yep, sounds about right and the precursor to many more cold rains to come over the next 3-4 months.
Like we need any more rain…lol…already working on 2019 rainfall as we exceeded annual average for 2018 over 2 months ago!
I’m glad I had my trees trimmed a couple weeks ago.
Still just rain in north warren county. Sittin at 32 degrees.
The dry slot is killing us just south of Paducah. About 2″ on the ground, that might be it unless we get some redevelopment.
Chris use ti really ramp up and love snow. I feel like hes lost the spark for snow he once had. I use to stalk his updates and comment often. I love snow and would be so excited. I havent felt like he enjoys it anymore the last couple yrs. While i still pop to check what i feel is usually by far the most accurate info…… i just dont feel the energy anymore 🙁
Currently 31° and still FrzRn in Bardstown, coming down pretty good. Heard a lot of popping in the big trees on my street and it’s been almost non-stop emergency sirens for the past couple hours(I live by the police and fire dept’s) it’s getting pretty bad out there, imo.
Ice is on all elevated surfaces here in greenup (northeast ky)
Freezing rain falling in east frankfort, temp still 31, we need the warm up soon or things could get pretty ugly??
It’s already ugly in my area I’m going to have a huge clean up tomorrow. Huge branches are falling in my backyard seems like every 5 minutes. You can hear and see transformers blowing. Every time a tree limb breaks sounds like gunshots. Not letting the dogs out in the backyard to dangerous. Trees in my area cannot take on anymore ice.
Why the NWS has not upgraded some to ice storm warning is well beyond me!! How much tree damage and power outages is needed!?!
Looks like the Euro wasn’t such an outlier on the ice totals after all. Wow.
Lots of people without power in Bardstown. Trees on the road in places. The roads themselves are okay.
