Good afternoon, folks. Light snow is the name of the weather game for the rest of the day into tonight as our upper low swings across the bluegrass state. This should put down light accumulations along the way and create slick spots on area roads.
That band of snow will increase as it works into central and eastern Kentucky through early evening. Accumulations should range from a half inch up to 2″ on a few spots. Here are a few of the model forecasts through tonight…

Hi Res NAM
With temps dropping below freezing, slick spots will likely develop across the region. Keep that in mind if you’re going to be travelling from this evening through Friday morning. This has the makings of a small event that can have a much bigger impact on travel.
Don’t forget that tonight is my winter forecast on WKYT-TV at 6pm. If you are out of the area and cant watch: https://www.wkyt.com/livestream
I leave you with your tracking tools for the afternoon…

Welp…finally got Internet back. Luckily where I am in E. Bardstown, no power issues but plenty of limbs down in my neighborhood (surprisingly, very young/small ones?!) This turned out to be a tad more than what most thought it would be. Now the sky is turning very dark purple again to our W/SW-snow is comin’!!! 🙂 Looks like we’ve got a good start to the Winter thus far. Or will it be one of those “front-loaded” ones until we have severe storms/tornadic activity starting early ’19??? Never can tell in the OV!
Hope all are well, and please be safe!
Yes Bardstown got hit pretty good last night. I had to go around a downed tree on 245 and a lot of downtown Bardstown was dark.
Here’s hoping to lots of WHITE this winter!!
I’ll be watching and waiting for the winter forecast!
That band in western KY has put down nearly an inch in Rodger’s backyard. Nice surprise today. Rodger in Dodger
Same here Roger Doger in Union.co
Sleet in Bardstown now. My dogs wouldn’t even pee….lol!
LOL you know that’s some rough winter weather when the dogs won’t *go* LOL!
Snowing in blue ash Ohio . Ground is covered. Local weather guys saying the area on radar is getting smaller but it doesn’t look that way to me.
Ground is covered in blue ash ohio. Local weather guys say area on radar is getting ssmaller. Our weather men here suck.
Snowing sideways here in Estill County! What’s going on with the Jackson office? Why won’t they issue a winter weather advisory?
Jackson NWS is “advisory challenged” very much like the Charleston, WV office is–severe weather can be happening right in front of them but they won’t issue the proper warnings/advisories, I just don’t understand it 🙁
Absolutely heartbreaking in Harlan. The actual upper low is only about 25 miles to the north. Finally cold enough to snow here and no precip….exactly what I expected this morning☹….worse yet, I predicted most of the the state would get some snow last week and blow up the tweeter feed with pics. Maybe I can look up high in the morning and see some white. The valley here stinks for snow, lack of snow…lol.
At least Coffeelady got a bit!
I did get a little bit finally….first flakes is better than nothing☺
Pretty intense snow squall coming through right now. 20+ mph winds and snow going everywhere.
1/2 in. snow in Frankfort, this would be nice on Christmas eve!
Man that’s one heck of a bold prediction..Wonder if will ice first then turn to heavy snow and then flood..Also wonder what part of the state this will happen..May be without power for months..
Chris it finally snowed for about 45 minutes didn’t last long sure was beautiful!
