Good Sunday, folks. Our cold front moving toward the Commonwealth has slowed down just enough to give many of us a dry Sunday. The slow movement means a wetter start to the upcoming Thanksgiving week. It’s a week that may start and end with rain, but travel day and Turkey Day still look dry.
Beyond Turkey Day, Old Man Winter looks ready to pounce again.
Before we get to all that, let’s talk about just how cold this November has been to date. The average temperatures are deep in the below normal range across Kentucky and much of the country…
If we just focus on daytime highs, those numbers go even lower…
Overnight lows have balanced out the force as the increased moisture content in the atmosphere keeps lows from dropping nearly as much against the normal. Still, the cold for the first half of November has been impressive!
Ok, let’s focus on what happens next.
Clouds will thicken today with a small shot at a late day shower in the north and west. Highs are generally in the 50s.
Rain arrives tonight into Monday as a cold front drops in from the northwest. This isn’t a lot of rain, but some of us may see better than a quarter of an inch…
Temps on Monday come way down compared to today, with highs mainly in the chilly 40s. Northwesterly winds behind that system may spit out a cold shower on Tuesday, with small flake chance in the north and east.
Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day look good for holiday travelers with seasonally chilly temps and dry skies.
A storm system moves in late on Black Friday and continues into Saturday. That’s a rain maker for our region, but it’s the system coming behind that that tries to take on more of a winter look early the following week. Watch the two systems on the Canadian…
That’s a good looking early season winter pattern kicking off in the last days of November into early December.
I will have another update later today. Until then, have a great Sunday and take care.
That Canadian run presents a drunk Nor’easter, wobbles all over the place. Snow showers from a disconnected ‘spoke’ in the cyclonic flow? We’ve already had dustings and coatings. We want more…( a little greedy, already). Looks like the cold will be back though.
Yeah, the NE has already had multiple several inches. Most of KY has had about an inch while far SE KY has only had flakes with a tiny sugar coat….WE WANT MORE!
Good luck Terry. Hope we get some snow this year but I’m just not feeling optimistic about it….I don’t expect much better than last winter and the bar is so low that we only need about .65 of an inch to best last year’s total in Middlesboro. Honestly, I’d rather just have sunny skies and warmer temps for the season than the cintinual 33° rain that’s likely destined for us.
Just your average fall to winter outlook.
Thanks Chris. My kids are travelling on Wednesdayso I’m glad the weather looks good! But when we get through the weekend a little snow to welcome the holiday season would be ok too! Have a great Sunday everyone.
