Good Wednesday, everyone. The day before Thanksgiving is a special one here on Kentucky Weather Center. The busiest travel day of the year gets it’s own special post based on one of my all time favorite movies… Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

It’s a classic movie, and if you haven’t seen it, we can no longer be friends. 🙂

Here’s a little clip to get you guys started…

The weather on this busiest travel day of the year looks pretty good as skies become partly sunny. Temps are mainly in the 40s for highs, with a few low 50s west.

Thanksgiving Day will start in the 20s, but end with a decent temp spread. The arctic front delivering the bitter cold to the northeast is sideswiping the state. That means the northeastern part of Kentucky may struggle to get into the low 40s, with 50s in the west. Clouds may also linger into parts of central and eastern Kentucky.

Things loo good for Black Friday shoppers for much of the daylight hours. BY evening, rain increases quickly from west to east and will continue into Saturday. Some decent rain totals will be noted during this time…

Winds will be very gusty during this time.

The next storm system is likely to bring higher winds as it moves in late Sunday into Monday. This has the look of heavy rain to a mix then snow showers and flurries as a stout low wraps up across the Ohio Valley…

Light snow accumulations are possible with this system.

Winds of 40mph+ will be likely from Sunday afternoon through early Monday as temps crash in a hurry. Watch how quickly those numbers drop Sunday into Sunday night…

The month of November has been a very wintry and cold one across our region and for much of the country. With a small break upon us, I’ve been pointing toward  the end of November into early December as having the look of some big winter weather opportunities.  The models are now going that direction and the global indices are too.

The holy grail of winter indices would be a -AO, -NAO, +PNA and -EPO. Well, look at what is being forecast into early December…

That’s a healthy signal for rounds of winter weather and much colder than normal temps into early December, at least.

I will have updates later today, so check back. Stay safe on the Planes, Trains and Automobiles and remember… THOSE AREN’T PILLOWS! 🙂 Take care.
