Good evening, folks. We are rolling through as wintry November period with snow showers, arctic winds and frigid temps. This setup continues to create all kinds of travel issues across the region. By later in the week into the weekend, the threat comes from heavy rain and high winds.
Let’s begin with the current Winter Weather Advisory…
The advisories today have been as messy and as discombobulated as I’ve seen in a long time around here. Issued too late, extended a few hours, cancelled then reissued again an hour or so later. This has been a very poor message to convey to the very people we are trying to take care of. This doesn’t even include just how the advisories didn’t cover nearly enough counties in our region. It’s all about impact, impact and impact.
Snow showers wind down early Wednesday, but a few flakes may continue in the east through the afternoon.
Moisture moving in on Thursday may start as a touch of frozen precip before going over to light rain. That continues into Friday with a much stronger system arriving Friday night and Saturday. Thunderstorms are even possible ahead of this system as winds gust from 40-50mph. Another system then moves in early next week with what may be a rain to snow situation as cold air plunges back in….
Let’s get you back to tracking the current issues that should lead to more cancellations and delays tomorrow morning…

Chris, I was talking to friends over the weekend about your forecast for Monday and Tuesday and when I mentioned what you were predicting, they were shocked. I told them to check you out. You are officially the best and I count on you to keep me up to speed and as prepared as can be. Thanks for all you do. God bless you and your family.
What’s your opinion about today’s Winter Weather Advisory?
I think it should not have been issued for most of us. The criteria for Winter Weather Advisory is clearly stated as 1″-4″ of snow. A day that gets 4″ is the same advisory as today? False alarm rate is important too. (Marc Weinberg)
I can see it from both sides. CB agrees with the NWS for issuing the WWA however CB doesn’t agree with how the NWS handled issuing the WWA. Meanwhile, Weinberg doesn’t agree with the NWS for issuing the WWA. Maybe settle in the middle with a SPS?
We need a Winter weather advisory here in Nelson County. The roads are becoming snow covered.
Looks like they are taking Chris’s advice by issuing them based on impact, because we clearly didn’t meet WWA criteria (at least in my area, no where near 1in. only a coating)
