Good Saturday, folks. It’s a busy first day of December with showers and storms, and high winds rolling across the bluegrass state. This is in response to another big storm system rumbling across the center part of the country. This is also bringing a nice spike in temps, but winter is ready to take control again next week.
Today is not one of those days where it rains all the time. The farther east you live, the better the weather will be. Areas of central and western Kentucky will have the best chance for thunderstorms going up. One way moves through very early this morning with additional storms going up later today. Some of those storms may be strong or severe, producing high winds and some hail.
Here’s today’s Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
Gusty winds will noted outside of thunderstorms and could reach 40mph-50mph at times.
As the low goes by to our northwest, better weather moves in here for Sunday. Skies will be partly cloudy with temps in the upper 50s to low 60s. Winds will still be gusty, but nothing like today.
Temps will quickly drop on Monday as a cold front moves through. A shower will be possible along and ahead of the boundary, with a some snow showers or areas of light snow behind it. That should carry us into Tuesday and Wednesday…
Some light accumulations are possible during this time. Temps will be very cold during this time, as we wait to see what happens with a system moving in late next week into the following weekend. The models continue to be all over the place in terms of how that system may or may not impact our region. The signal for a southern stream storm system has been there for a while, but the details are a long way from being known.
The models all have some kind of system, but differ on how to handle it. The GFS and European Models have a pretty good snow hit for the bluegrass state…
GFS
European
Canadian
Again, we still have plenty of time to watch the progress of this system, but it continues to have a very interesting look.
I will have updates later in the day. Until then, here are your tracking tools for the day…
Make it a great Saturday and take care.
Since I am not 100% happy with the POTENTIAL track of next week’s big storm (possibly too far west) for SE KY, I will focus on rainfall.
Lexington should hit the magic number anytime now and begin the additional surplus beyond 2011 rainfall. I think Lexington will end up at least 5 inches or more above 2011, given the active pattern continues all December long! Black Mt likely sets a record for most rainfall of any location since the Mesonet inception while my location along with a lot of people on here approach 70 inches by NewYear’s Eve. Crazy year!!!☺
Terry, I really enjoy all your weather comments. You ARE the best commentator on Chris’s blog ! I haven’t decided yet to participate after what I said on Thursday. I just wish I could post my detail comments without hurtful remarks.
And there Schroeder goes again, yet another empty threat of leaving. We all know you’re not leaving. Quit being a know it all and stop acting like you know more about the weather than Chris does. You lost my respect years ago when you chastised teachers for welcoming snow days and having a day off and will never get it back.
I have found it is easy to rapidly scroll completely through the Schroeder pontifications and not get irritated by his cut and paste weather opinions.
Schroeder, you ever notice that very rarely when others post most if not all are ok with what they’re posting? However when you post you have a way of disrupting the blog. You should ask yourself why? A few have reached out to tell you why this happens when you post. Unfortunately it goes in one ear and out the other. Quite a few times you say one thing and then completely do and about face and basically contradict yourself on a following post. The credibility factor with you is zero. The know it all attitude that you portray rubs a lot of people wrong and unfortunately most of what you ramble makes little to no sense. Granted, some do like reading what you say but the majority don’t. Just like Jeff K said you have a habit of saying some rude and crude things at times. You have a right to your opinions just don’t expect most to accept or agree with what you say.
I’m a better commenter than Schroeder! 😉
Schroeder….PLEASE DO NOT let ANYONE bring you down because of your comments or opinions here. This blog has been going on for years now, and I, for one, have been here almost since it’s inception. It used to be a FUN forum for EVERYONE to get together and talk about what “MIGHT” happen, whether it be ANY season…SPRING…SUMMER..FALL..WINTER…(esp…Winter!-that’s when EVERYONE came out to bring out their opinions and what they “thought” might happen??!-ahhh…the “memories”…SOOOO GOOD!!!) (I always liked posting here-so many GOOD folks…Marsha, Vinny, MJ (an actual Met…!),Patty, I can’t recall ALL??!)
You should STAY. I actually like(d) this blog until last Winter. Maybe before…..??!- I live in Bardstown. I found this blog one day when I was looking for something else (not related to “weather”…?!-go figure?!) and once I got here, and started talking to people, I LOVED it! I felt “welcomed”. People that used to post here, I don’t see anymore??! Maybe..and I am “going there” , because I believe Chris B. is the kind of guy I trust him to BE…?! He’s not going to ditch you, Schroeder. You have that right to say what you want. Others say bad things against you. That is also their right to do so. But there is also one other thing…..
Regardless of what others say….YOU are the BETTER PERSON.
Debbie, I just don’t understand your thinking. Schroeder has gotten countless chances to be welcome on the blog but he shoots himself in the foot constantly with his occasional unnecessary derogatory comments and yet I do not see you say hey Schroeder that was a uncalled for comment. Funny to me how certain people can turn a blind eye on comments and or things that are obviously not right and show complete disrespect. Chris Bailey has comment himself a time or two and warned Schroeder to settle down. If anything Chris Bailey has been more than patient with Schroeder. You look at Schroeder as the victim and that’s so far from the truth or as you would say “bullying” and that’s so far off from reality it’s ridiculous. Nobody would have a issue with Schroeder if he would just stop contradicting on what Chris Bailey writes in his blog and quit acting like a know it all. If Schroeder would show respect on a constant level he might get respect back.
So Schroeder bashing Chris Bailey comments at times and Schroeder bashing school teachers about snow days makes Schroeder a better person!?! Things that make me go hmmmmm…..
*this*
I think if anyone here is shooting themselves in the foot, it’s you and a couple others that seem to think that shaming and ridiculing another for their opinions is the right thing to do. I don’t recall seeing CB calling out Schroeder , but I admit, I could be wrong. He may have, I might have not seen it. I used to come here a lot when I first chanced upon it, and although some commented things I disagreed with, not ONE TIME did I EVER make a snide or rude comment back to them. I can at least say that much. and take pride in it, because this used to be a place where a lot of really nice people could come, chat, form an opinion, and not one single person (all right..a couple…) ever acted like one knew more than the next. We would chat, say what we thought might happen, if it did, it did…if it didn’t, so be it, I don’t recall anyone being nasty about any one thing another said, whether it be right, wrong, went against, or for, what another thought. The blog was FUN. I’m sorry to say that it isn’t anymore because of people that seem to think their opinions demand more respect than others’.
If Chris wants to ban me from his blog because of what I just wrote, he has every right. I am only telling it like it is. Until then, I will come here and be just as nice and chatty as I have always been to everyone.
There is just some people you can’t reach or make understand. So it’s okay for Schroeder to bash school teachers and Chris Bailey’s thoughts? God forbid people stand up and use there voice for what is offensive. Just because Debbie didn’t see Schroeder’s negative post’s I guess in her eyes that makes it ok, Schroeder did nothing wrong. Oh and by the way the blog is still fun. When a person blatantly bashes school teachers for wanting or liking snow days the backlash of that person’s comment no matter who that person is rather it be a he or she will be heard by many in a negative way and deservingly so.
Looks like Lexington will set The Mark within an hour….
Have now tied The Mark…
DONE. New all-time annual wettest year is 2018 at Lexington
Sorry. Added numbers wrong. They really are within 0.05″….I promise.
i’ll take my chances here SE KY, with what the 7 day wpc is currently showing.
Still exciting considering it is December 1st only. You never know….I have only seen a couple of 6 inch or a little more December snow events ever in Harlan….be awesome to see this year if it does.
Mets here say all rain for next weekend storm flooding very possible
Ok, it’s now officially the wettest year ever in Lexington.
Where is Louisville at in current placement and official year-date total?
Louisville International is at 62.95 but that was as of 1 am this morning….
Bowman Field is at 59.95 as of 1 am
so add a bit to these totals. I’m not sure how much.
I believe Louisville’s annual record is 68 something inches.
Louisville is now over 64″ as I write this, good enough for 3rd wettest all-time. However, 2nd place looks possible today if we get a few more downpours.
One thing to note: The records for Lexington date back to the 1870s…but it’s worth mentioning that I don’t think the records have always been kept in the exact same spot. I’m not 100% sure on this, but I think records used to be kept at a site in downtown. I’m not sure when there was a transition to keeping them at KLEX. Maybe they have records dating back to the 1870s at KLEX too? I don’t know.
5 of the wettest years on record have occurred since I’ve lived here starting in 1996 LOL
Even The Weather Channel was giving us in the Tri-State a decent chance of snow next Friday or Saturday. But the Charleston NWS and the local Met’s have no mention of anything just sunny from tomorrow thru next Saturday.
Time for chris to purge this blog of certan people
Prelude has had the final say here.
Things here are fun.
Things here are ideal.
Prelude, by definition, means “leading to something of greater importance.”
Keep pickin’ them feet up and trudging along…..you might make it one day!
I believe Debbie is Schroeder’s wife.
There goes Lexington adding to that surplus!☺
