Good afternoon, everyone. I have no changes on how I think the rest of the day goes as cold air races in and changes our rain over to a period of snow. This should be able to put down light, slushy accumulations leading to slick spots developing.

Before all this happens, winds are causing issues. Gusts have been well over 40mph at times as heavy rains roll into the region. Watch for flooding issues, later today into the early part of the evening. That’s especially true across the south central and southeastern parts of the state.

A period of wet snow is likely along and behind the front, but the duration of this snow isn’t likely to last more than a few hours for any one location.Light, slushy accumulations should show up in many areas of central and eastern Kentucky.Icy roads may develop into Thursday morning, leading to a few delays and cancellations. This may certainly warrant a Winter Weather Advisory. This is a lot of water that’s going to freeze up on roads and just a little bit of snow will make things rough for a time.

I have no changes on the snow map…

The Weather Prediction Center still has much of central and eastern Kentucky in a slight risk for 4″ snows tonight and early Thursday…

That’s certainly a scenario that can happen if the cold is faster in catching the back edge of the rain shield. I’m just not biting on that one at this point.  It’s worth watching this evening, though.

Another round of light snow and snow showers will sweep in here Thursday evening as an arctic front slides through. That will unleash bitterly cold air by Friday morning. Readings may hit the single digits in a few spots. Wind chills may go below zero…

Several systems target the region from the northwest this weekend through next week. We’re likely to put some snow on the ground again at some point Saturday into Sunday as we get a reinforcing shot of arctic air.

The system coming behind that late Monday into Tuesday is one that can develop into something much bigger. It’s being pushed by brutally cold air diving into the country. Something similar to that may show up a few days later.

Let’s get back to the weather of today. I will have the latest on WKYT starting at 4 and will have another update here this evening. Until then, you’re all set to do some tracking…
