Good evening, everyone. We continue to watch a couple of light snow makers working toward the state for the weekend. Then, the bottom falls out as we head into next week. That’s behind an arctic front that will also throw some snow down in our region.
The best chance to see some light snow and flurries over the next few days is across the northern half of the state. The GFS is farthest north….
The Canadian is farthest south…
The first round of light snow and flurry action arrives overnight and you can track it here…
Next week continues to look very harsh for much of the country as the Polar Vortex rolls into the lower 48…
That’s what is pushing our Monday night arctic front that will have a big band of snow behind it. A weak wave of low pressure tries to develop along that front as it presses into central and eastern Kentucky, especially. If you’re a snow lover, that’s exactly what you want to happen.
The European Model continues to do just that…
Make it a great evening and take care.
This is some boring weather
Dang clippers! SE KY was in line to at least get a dab 24 hours ago but the energy looks a few hundred miles north as we get closer, especially the stronger Sunday system . Ghost clippers… lol
Too far north or too far South. But you can sure bet if it was rain we’d be in the bullseye.
Yep another thing that’s annoying is the lines with each event. West of 165, north of I64, south-central, eastern, extreme southern or northern…..especially western
Well….looks like WKY on the outside looking in again….I stand by my RIP winter as the snow part of it skirts by WKY….
Wouldn’t count y’all out yet. Don’t it usually do a north east shift?
LOL! Just a few weeks ago, folks would be all over the Euro and it’s outlook for early next week and would be a lot of posts. Model jaded we be.
Kind of like Cuba Gooding Jr in Jerry Maguire, except it’s Show Me The SNOOOW!
Models have been bad since the huge December miss for eastern Kentucky. I discounted that one since it was early season and it would be a surprise snow that time of year, but they continue to struggle and it’s late January. If we had all the snow the models showed at three days out we would be above average at this time. My advice is look outside to your backyard and get the forecast. Kentucky is a rain state and not a snow state.
I hope something works out for Tuesday but I am not that impressed yet, opportunity is there though for at least the most widespread coverage of snow for about all of us.
The cold looks to last about 5 days which is a positive from both an economic and agricultural standpoint, but we look to get right back into the same crappy zonal pattern again for at least a while in February. I know this post is negative but it is also realistic from what looks likely to happen from what I see. I HOPE I AM WRONG!!!
How is it that rain will dump to our north, south, East, and West, but rain hits Kentucky like an Olympic gold medalist in archery?
Looks like Monday into Tuesday for a decent chance of accumulating snows, eastern ky looks good for a few nice inches, I hope it works out
for the snow starved areas?
