Good evening, folks. As expected, another winter weather maker is on the way to much of the state later tonight and into Friday. This is a fairly light system, but it will have enough freezing rain and light snow to cause travel issues for many areas.
A Winter Weather Advisory is out for much of the state and region during this time…
Here’s a look at a rough outline of what to expect through Friday…
Icy roads are a real possibility to begin the day Friday. Cancellations and delays are likely for a third straight day.
The first flakes may fly in the north before the evening is over. Here’s regional radar to track that action…
Temps rebound very quickly this weekend with 50 on Saturday and near 60 on Sunday. Winds will be gusty as that southwest flow kicks in. This will also lead to mild weather hanging tough into early next week. That same flow also means an increase in showers and a few thunderstorms.
Another surge of arctic air dives into the country by the middle of next week. This brings an arctic front into Kentucky around the middle of the week and that may very well have winter weather showing up behind it. The setup is there for several systems.
The new version of the GFS continues to latch on the potential…
The last two runs of the European Model are showing something similar…
Make it a great evening and take care.
Thanks Chris. Of course tonight’s forecast will probably verify because it has the word rain in it! Freezing or otherwise. Ha ha! But I will not mind a bit of a warm up, even temporary. My heat pump needs a break! Have a good evening all, and stay safe and warm.
I love the fabricated snowfall the models are producing next week.
But you never know, sometimes fiction turns into reality.
Keeping my fingers cross.
The models won’t load when I look at Chris’s updates. Just started happening today.
If your on a mobile phone, try removing non-active data.
Thanks! That worked!
Possible ankle biter next week.
I think referring to it as an ankle biter might be expecting a little too much. Since the ground is apt to be very warm and wet.
I honestly don’t like the look of that fantasy storm. The new GFS run here paints a big winter storm with heavy freezing rain and ice impacts across a large area.
Each frame is a six-hour span. That’s an average of an 18-24 hour event with ice before snow. Any heavy precipitation would eventually overcome the warmer, wet ground within a matter of an hour or two, possibly even faster if heavy sleet is involved.
Oh! Thanks Prelude. Now I see it.
Might get to empty my truck of salt later tonight. First ton of the year used up. Will I need more for the end of winter, I guess we will see. At least the models look good for it. 😉 😉 😉
Oh. Something else really cool. Two videos. One showing enormous flocks of birds flying toward local airport. Today however. They’ve changed their flight pattern. If i knew that captain sully I’d sure like for him to see another miracle because of the one he was part of.
