Good Sunday, everyone. Winter weather is working across the state as we get ready to put the wraps on the first weekend of March. This is kicking off a very cold pattern that is likely to throw a little more winter weather our way later in the week ahead.

Overall, my thoughts really haven’t changed:

  • The best chance for winter weather comes this afternoon and early evening.
  • Light accumulations of snow show up, with streaks of overachieving snow and streaks of “that’s it?”. The majority of accumulations will be on grassy and elevated surfaces.
  • Thunderstorms in the deep south will play a big role in how much precipitation falls. The more thunderstorms that develop there, the less precipitation here and vice versa.
  • If we are to get some slick roads out of this, the best chance comes after sundown as temps crash. We should be in the teens overnight with the potential for a few snow showers and flurries lingering.

Here’s one final status check of the forecast models…

I say this time and time again, but it’s important to note the models are forecasting snowfall and not actual snow depth.

Frigid air follows this for the week ahead with another winter weather maker possible by Thursday. For those winter holdouts who are liking this cold and winter weather… Come on over to #teamspring. There’s no shame in it! 🙂

I will have updates later today. Until then, here are your tracking tools for the beginning of this system as it  works across Kentucky…
