Good afternoon, everyone. Our winter storm system is rolling across the state with an increasing band of snow. This is likely to lay down a swath of wet snow from southwest to northeast and will be followed by a surge of arctic air tonight into Monday.

The main snow action develops across southwestern Kentucky and increases to the northeast. This will put down a swath of wet snow that mainly sticks to grass and elevated surfaces, but, at times, it may snow faster than it can melt on roads. That would cause slick travel to develop for some.

As of this writing, the Winter Weather Advisories are not far enough south. The NWS in Charleston WV is the only office adjusting on the fly and they did go south by a couple of counties. The KY offices did not and the Jackson NWS allows for several counties to be jumped…

By the time you’re reading this, hopefully those counties have been filled in and added to.

The morning computer model runs are more amped up with the potential for wet snow this afternoon and evening. Please keep in mind the models are showing snow fall and not snow depth! The short range HRRR shows this increasing band…

This matches up with every single forecast model…

Melting will take care of some of the snow, so you probably won’t see those numbers showing up on a ruler. As temps crash into the teens tonight, icy roads are a real potential.
