Short-Lived Spring Fever

Good Tuesday, everybody. We have a small case of spring fever breaking out across the bluegrass state. The CDC is upgrading us to a full blown outbreak through Thursday. Beyond that, the reality of March sets back in as a much colder pattern serves as the cure to our outbreak. Blah!

Temps today will be in the 50s with a mix of sun and clouds, but the numbers are set to climb from there. Temps hit the 60s on Wednesday then should head toward 70 on Thursday as southwesterly winds absolutely crank. Those winds are ahead of a major plains storm system rolling toward the Great Lakes. That drags a cold front across Kentucky, bringing showers and storms with it…

A few of the storms may be strong. Winds will also be very gusty and could top 40mph at times before the colder air rushes in. That colder air may also have a wraparound rain or snow shower late Friday.

As the colder settles in this weekend, we will need to watch the setup into next week. It’s one ripe for a big storm to develop across the eastern part of the country. The models are trying their best to sniff this out. Watch all the energy dropping in and trying to hook up with a storm in the deep south…

That’s certainly and interesting setup and one that argues we haven’t seen our last round of winter weather. No thanks!

Enjoy the day and take care.

For the Ohio Valley winter has been over from the get go. Unless it squeezes out a last minute snow storm that will melt in a day.

    • Terry says:

Agreed! Especially been terrible for the far south and SE KY counties close to TN! Top 5 worst, least snowiest in my lifetime!

  2. Roger says:

The worst I’ve seen in 56 years here in Whitley County. Less than half an inch of snow. We’ve had some winters with not much snow but never anything like this winter.

    • Terry says:

I hope Spring pays us back with a longer stretch of warm, NOT COLD TO HOT, weather this year. Plenty of 70s to low 80s with low humidity would be ideal but wetter than average predicted probably yields an early humidity season!

  3. Matt says:

That looks to be a tiny, tiny band of showers Thurs.. Finally an extended dry stretch this week all the way through the weekend.. Much needed!

    • Bobt says:

That’s the kind of rain I like, a short hard rain and back to dry. The forecast here in the southern part of the state is not to bad. Rain Thursday evening and out of here by early Friday. Lowest high is around 50 and most importantly no rain.

  4. Bernard P. Fife says:

Not even gonna fall for that winter possibility next week.

  5. Schroeder says:

A year ago today in my back yard I measured eight inches of snow. Seems like these March snows are getting scarce along with the rest of the winter months of December, January and February. No one knows if this is just a weather cycle or climate change to a warmer Earth. I heard this morning that the Sun is vacant of sun spots. During the last time this occurred we had more colder temperatures and frequent winter events and not so much rain in the Ohio Valley. So what is going on with our Global climate. Question mark not noted because no one knows the true cause. SCARY of what is down the road.

    • Joey says:

Hopefully just a warming climate cycle. Like you said no one truly knows that answer just speculations at this point. Scary indeed.

Lucy’s pulled the football out all winter. I’m not falling for no banana in the tailpipe.

  7. Ray says:

I’m ready for spring, as I’ve said before. I’m not falling for the snow storm. If this thing happens to come in our neck of the woods, it will probably be mostly rain and a quick heavy wet snow shower. Quit playing games, old man winter.

  8. Jeff Hamlin says:

Perhaps this warmup/cooldown is the first salvo of the so-called “tree winters”.

  9. Terry says:

You can tell nothing is going on for a change….been 2 days straight now without a second update! #Boring is nice for change

  10. Karen says:

Well all I know is here in northern ky …all winter I haven’t known how to dress accordingly …
