Good Thursday, everyone. We have another absolutely amazing weather day across the bluegrass state, but big changes are on the way for the weekend. Those changes mean a big increase in showers and thunderstorms to the Commonwealth. There’s still an outside chance for a touch of winter.
Highs today top out from 65-70 in many areas with partly sunny skies continuing. A few clouds are rolling in this afternoon, but any shower or storm looks to stay just to our west and north…
Temperatures on Friday will be back into the 60s, but scattered showers and storms will move in. This isn’t an all day type setup, but keep the umbrellas around, especially in the west and central parts of the state.
Showers and storms will increase on Saturday as our cold front moves in. Leftover showers linger into early Sunday as chilly winds blow back in. There remains a small window of opportunity for some flake action late Saturday night and Sunday morning…

The below normal temps hang around into early next week before a warming trend settles in as we head deeper into the first week of April.
I think this leads us into a warmer than normal April for our part of the world. It’s also likely to become a very busy setup for some big thunderstorms. The new rainfall run of the European Weeklies from WeatherBell show this busy setup…
That rainfall presentation suggests the potential for a robust severe weather season for the Mississippi Valley into the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys.

Last year the worst storm we had was in July where it blew trees down all over the city, including one of my trees. The wind was fierce and it scared me big time. I hate severe weather.
I can relate to the hate of severe weather. I personally hate Spring for that reason.
I wouldn’t worry about severe weather until it is actually in the forecast. In the meantime the lower dew points are really helping to keep the storms away by weakening them as they approach from the northwest. In my opinion we are in a pattern that tends to be drier and cooler, and I hope it continues. I do hope we get ‘April showers’ and not the frost and possible freezes that still can occur.
