Good Saturday, everyone. We have a potent cold front rolling across the bluegrass state and that’s likely to bring strong to severe storms to parts of the state. Once this storm goes through, temps crash enough for a few snowflakes to show up by late tonight.

Scattered showers and storms will be around early today, but periods of sunshine will be noted, boosting temps toward the low 70s in central and eastern parts of the state. This will allow for enough instability to fire up a line of potentially strong to severe storms. That line should race from west to east as we get into the afternoon and evening.

Here’s today’s Severe Weather Outbreak from the Storm Prediction Center…

Damaging winds will be the main threat, with large hail following that up. Locally heavy rains will also be noted and some areas could pick up better than an inch of rain.

Winds will be very gusty as temps crash behind the front. Readings reach the upper 20s by Sunday morning, with a period of mixed rain and snow possible for a few hours very early Sunday. A northwest wind may also squeeze out a few early day flakes in the mountains of eastern Kentucky. Sunshine takes over by the afternoon as temps stay in the chilly 40s.

Temps will be a little chillier than normal through the first half of the week, with temps back toward 70 by the second half of the week. That’s also when the next threat for showers and storms shows up, especially on Friday.

I have you all set to track today’s strong to severe storms threat…
