Good Sunday, everyone. We have a potentially active weather day taking shape across the bluegrass state. Strong to severe thunderstorms will flare up for some areas, especially this afternoon into the evening. This is kicking off a very busy pattern as we roll through April.
The greatest risk for severe weather is across the western and central parts of the state. Here’s the current outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
Damaging wind is likely to be the main player, but large hail may also be noted. The tornado threat is there, but is on the low end of the scale.
Many of the storms will be travelling from southwest to northeast. The first round comes early today, then we wait for additional action later on. That will be the stuff with the best chance of going severe.
Showers and storms will continue in waves tonight and Monday as the focus shifts farther south and east.
Next week continues to look very warm with another big boomer threat lurking for later Thursday.
I have you all set to do some storm tracking…
Severe threat decreased for parts of MY by Storm Prediction Center
KY
They downgraded most of the state this morning.
Nothing burger it seems. Trend way less north for main action.
That’s great news, but I wouldn’t let your guard down just yet.
I trust real mets.
Thankfully, our storms “so far” perform like our snow systems. Looks significant a few days to a day out, but then wimp out. Not a bad thing, but unlikely to always be that way.
Still plenty of rain and thunder. Good enough for me.
Just leave the winds at less than 20 mph and all good 😉
You can just about take it to the bank anytime the Severe Threat extends into Alabama and Mississippi that the threat in KY will be all but squashed. Seen it far too many times
Thanks Chris. Don’t mind that the severe threat has lessened. Don’t mind a good storm but severe can stay away. Hope everyone is having a great Sunday!
