Good Thursday, everybody. Today is a day that’s going to feel a lot like the beginning of summer in the bluegrass state. Unfortunately, the summer-like air is ahead of some showers and storms rolling in later tonight. This kicks off a super-soaker of a pattern with two big systems set to follow over the next week.
Temps today should reach the low 80s into many areas as strong southwesterly winds increase. Gusts of 40mph or higher will be possible as the day wears on into Tonight. That’s when a cold front arrives with a line of showers and thunderstorms. The best chance for severe storms is across the west…
This line weakens as it moves east, but it’s still around on Friday, especially across the eastern half of the state. This will end from west to east during the afternoon as skies become partly sunny. Temps are in the upper 60s and low 70s.
The next storm system may throw a shower or two at us on Saturday, with the bulk of the action coming Saturday night and Sunday. The stage is set for some strong storms and heavy rainfall …
High winds will also be possible during this time.
Temps come down a few degrees behind that departing low for Monday, but another big temperature surge comes behind it by Tuesday and Wednesday. Temps can make a run at 80 again on another strong southwest flow. That’s ahead of another powerful storm that will bring more heavy rain and strong storms at us…
That could actually unleash a shot of cold air behind it…
This is a good time to remind you not to do any planting. I don’t recommend that until the second week of May. š
I leave you with your Thursday tracking tools to watch the action approach us from the west…
Have a great Thursday and take care.
It won’t get that cold.
Hamlin, you hypocrite. If someone else said āit wonāt get that coldā your usual response is āIāll put my trust in a trained meteorologistā practice what you preach. lol
Your comment is utterly false and ridiculous.
Another typical Hamlin defensiveness comment comeback, how predictable. Let me refresh your memory during this past winter several people commented saying winter is done put a fork in it. You would then chime in and say false or wrong then you would say Iāll put my trust in a real meteorologist. So itās ok for you to say ā It wonāt get that coldā but if another person said that comment depending on what mood youāre in you would call them out.

Prelude’s statement is absolutely correct.
No, it is not.
Hamlin has too much foolish pride to admit when he is wrong.
You’re the one acting arrogant. Have a great day! š
Not arrogant just confident big difference
Besides, my comment does not indicate mistrust in Chris.
Why that comment post twice is beyond me
Jeff just said that he believes that it won’t frost or freeze which is impossible to predict and Chris didn’t say how cold it could get. It’s just Jeff’s opinion.
Hope Jeff is right that it wont get that cold….ready for warmth!
RIP Winter, dangit! š
Maybe not, but I wouldn’t plant any unless it’s the cool season crops.
For now, my wife and I have more hearty flowers outside like Pansies…ā¦…..well, my parents and in-laws did most of the planting š . Nice for them to help out while us younger adults are stuck in the office.
Just remember we still got blackberry ,dogwood another one that I can’t think of that produces short term cold snaps from now through May31st. So don’t say it won’t get cold. LOL
Mythical folklore with no supporting evidence.
Well, if you’re looking for “scientific” proof, maybe not – however – we always get periodic cool snaps as Winter transitions to Spring, and over the decades they simply developed names.
Correct
We still haven’t have not had Redbug here either
Red Buds just started here at my place right on time for “RED BUD WINTER” maybe latter next week, followed by “DOGWOOD WINTER” ? These saying are fun and were stared by amateur gardeners many many years ago.
DOGWOOD WINTER
Dogwoods are just beginning to bloom at my place.
I started out at 48 degrees this morning around 6:30 and its already up to 70 with a really warm wind.
Up to 76 degrees here at my place with 7- 10 MPH breeze from the southwest ( nice and dry.) Only recorded so far 1.37 inches of rain for the month of April. Great Spring so far.
The most recent SPC update was about an hour ago. No big changes. Much of the overnight severe wx will stay north of the Ohio River and even those conditions are no where near off the charts. Far western areas of Kentucky may have isolated cases of either hail and/or damaging winds reaching severe limits.
Much of the next wave of severe weather (for the weekend) is still forecast to p-a-s-s close to the Gulf Coast.
Schroeder mentioned earlier this month about the horrific 1965 Palm Sunday tornadoes. Today is the anniversary. While our area was not affected, parts of Indiana, Ohio and other states were far less fortunate.
