Good Friday to one and all. Low pressure is working across the state today and is bringing rain and cooler air. As the rain ends from west to east, the cooler air looks to hold tight through the upcoming weekend. In the longer range, a warm and stormy setup looks to kick in for Kentucky Derby Week.
Our Friday starts with rain across central and eastern Kentucky, but the drops will exit fairly quickly with partly sunny skies taking over…
Temps will hit the low 70s in the far west, but may not get much above 60 in the east.
Clear skies tonight will set the stage for a few upper 30s to show up across central and eastern Kentucky. The rest of our Saturday is a windy one with a mix of sun and clouds as a cold front drops in from the northwest. That may touch off a shower or storm in the afternoon and evening…
This is a fairly cool weekend as temps may struggle to get much past 60 on Sunday.
The setup for Kentucky Derby week is a warm one that can turn stormy…
Here’s what the European Model is looking like for Oaks Day and Derby Day…
Obviously, those will change from day to day, but the overall pattern has a stormy look to it.
Have a great day and take care.
Looks like in general eastern and southeastern KY have been missing out on the rain. Where as the Kentucky county’s that border the Ohio River can’t shut the rain off.
It has been nice! With a drier ground, the temps are averaging warmer down here since February compared to the rest of the state too.
Raining now at my house in Taylor County, but soon to end after looking at the radar. Dry slot to our west. Hope the cooler weather has some sunshine included for the weekend ? Chris, I hope that stormy map doesn’t pan out and the severe weather stays away for Derby Day ?
The derby usually let’s the whole world see what a wet climate we have in this state. It seems like it always rains either on the Oaks or the Derby. Kentucky has a beautiful landscape, but it just rains too darn much.
I remember the late 1980’s when Kentucky and all surrounding states were in one of the most devastating droughts since the 1930’s “dust bowl” period. I hope we are not heading in that direction as nature has to balance long wet periods with dry periods. Something for meteorologist and climatologist to watch for.
I wouldn’t mind a mini-drought for a while. I can’t use my yard due to the constant rains. We’ve always had soggy ground for days after a rain but I have erosion from water streaming into my land from neighbors. It’s ridiculous.
I had that problem at another house years ago and had to hire a lawyer to solve the problem. Neighbors can’t by law let run off destroy your property.
Morning all! We have been pretty lucky with the rain this round in southern Ky. Got a period of very hard rain last night for about 19-15 minutes but then it eased off . We still have very wet ground from the flooding rains we had. Just dig about 8-12 inches. Good thing we are not in charge of the weather I guess. Have a wonderful Friday everyone!
