Good Saturday, everyone. It’s the final weekend of April and it’s going out on a windy and cool note as a northwesterly flow sets up. This won’t last long as things turn much warmer into Kentucky Derby Week. That warm spell should also include several waves of showers and thunderstorms.
As always, let us start with today. Winds are gusty as we start things out in the upper 30s and low 40s. Clouds will quickly increase as a cold front sweeps in from the northwest. That should touch off some late day showers and thunderstorms…
That action is fairly scattered.
Sunday morning may begin with a leftover shower some clouds. Sunday afternoon features a mix of sun and clouds with very cool temps showing up. Highs may not get to 60 degrees in some areas.
Temps surge back into the mid and upper 70s on Monday with a storm or two ramping up. The warmest day next week may come on Tuesday as temps can reach into the 80s…
Showers and thunderstorms really begin to increase by Wednesday and Thursday of next week as temps stay very warm. The latest trend on the models is to sweep much of the showers and storms to our east with cooler temps for Oaks Day and Derby Day…
That would be a very nice scenario, but it would also be a fairly cool scenario. Watch how we go from well above normal to well below normal…
Enjoy your Saturday and take care.
With it coming up on May, I don’t see below normal temps as a big deal.
Exactly!
For it being forecast as not good today, it has been pretty excellent so far.
Yeah no complaints whatsoever. I was out at Lake Reba park before the clouds rolled in. 🙂
Back to our beautiful Spring weather. This years Spring has been the longest and mostly quiet as far as severe weather is concerned for my region of Kentucky. In my opinion I think the month of May will continue the same as the weak El nino continues to control the weather pattern in place.
Thanks Chris. Glad to see a break in the rain even if it is a bit cooler. Goodcdaycto get out and go! And we are going to! Here is hoping it’s dry for Derby and Oaks Day and that it stays nice and warm! Have a great Saturday all!
On this day in history was day three of the infamous four day 2011 “Super Outbreak 2” which is considered to be a marginally larger tornado outbreak than even the April 3 1974 Super Outbreak.
Eight years ago, I was living in Kentucky which got off light compared to other states. But I happened onto this live internet coverage of the Tuscaloosa AL tornado:

Later in the evening, things became more personal as my siblings and I were unable to reach our parents in the Cleveland TN area (near Chattanooga). It was with tremendous relief to finally learn that all family members were safe. Turned out the monster Ringgold Georgia tornado tracked into Tennessee and missed my parents by less than eight miles. Considering that over 300 people were lost on April 27 2011, we’re very thankful that my parents can do things like be with their grandkids the last eight years.
Looking forward to the below average temps. Will extend the window of comfortable temperature weeks in our area. Thanks Chris!
