Good Wednesday, everyone. As our summertime air rolls on, rounds of showers and thunderstorms are getting set to target the region. This action is likely to hang tough into Kentucky Derby Weekend, with strong to severe storms also a possibility.
Temps are back into the 80s on a strong southwesterly wind. Humidity levels continue to climb and we could fire up a few showers and storms before the day is over. There is even the risk for a few strong to locally severe storms in the north and west. Here’s today’s Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
That threat shifts farther east on Thursday and should encompass much of the state…
A few thoughts:
- The storms come at us in waves and clusters with several hours of breaks in between
- Strong to severe storms may develop. Damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes are possible.
- Humidity levels are very high, so some decent rain totals will be possible. Check out some of the numbers through Saturday:
After a break in the action on Sunday, the pattern next week continues to look very active in terms of severe weather.
Here are your tracking tools for the day…
Have a great Wednesday and take care.
Not too bad on temperatures especially at the early morning hours. Now I have the windows open and it’s real comfortable inside. As long as I can leave the air conditioners off the better for the old pocket book. Hope the high pressure ridge to our east doesn’t weaken and allow that severe weather to our west to move into the state of Kentucky. I feel that eventually our luck will run out and we will get those unwanted storms.
Bring IT!
Bring what?
What ever its got!
SUMMER !!!
I hope that’s what you meant Virgil. I wouldn’t think that you would want severe weather. I remember a post of yours some time ago that you prefer hot summer weather.
Its a fact that Winter/Cold Weather/Storms kill more people and cause more damage widespread to people than severe weather especially in Kentucky. Yet No one bats an eye at someone wanting double digit snowfall. Severe Weather is going to happen whether I ask for it, someone asks for it or not. Im not going to have you or anyone else guilt me into feeling bad for being an avid storm chaser.
This!
Yeah, I remember now that you said in a post some years back that you were a storm chaser. Good for you, hands on learning but be careful. Sorry for speaking out of line. Won’t happen again.
As others have stated over the years, storm chasers and others interested in severe weather often work closely with the NWS and local Emergency Management offices to warn of tornadoes and other threatening weather. In other words, these individuals are trying to save lives.
THANK YOU!!!
Thanks Chris. Always seems to do something sloppy for Derby weekend doesn’t it? Oh well. As long as none of the horses get hurt or jockeys. Need a little dry or our pool will never get installed! Have a great rest of your day everyone.
