Big Changes Just Ahead

Good Wednesday to one and all. We have a powerhouse of a cold front rolling our way and it will bring a severe weather threat for Thursday. Behind this, the pattern is going to skew much, much cooler. Even with a cooler setup, more rain is on the way.

Today is a summer-like day with temps well into the 80s. It’s basically another day straight out of late June. There is a chance for a shower or storm going up, especially across western Kentucky. This area is closer to a big severe weather outbreak ongoing across the plains and Mississippi Valley. Here’s the current Severe Weather Outlook for our region…

This threat will move farther east into Kentucky and surrounding areas on Thursday. Damaging winds and large hail would be the main players to watch out for. Here’s the Thursday Severe Weather Outlook…

The extent of that severe threat is largely dependent on how early day storms behave just to our south and southwest.

Showers hang around into Friday as cooler winds blow back in here. This happens as a cold front slows down, allowing for another big storm system to develop and roll our way. Rain will increase from southwest to northeast later Saturday into Saturday night. Heavy rain and some thunder would then sweep through the state on Sunday.

This could cause local high water issues to develop in some areas. The European Model is cranking out several inches of rain from Thursday through Sunday…

Temps will be very cool as that system moves through, with a cooler than normal pattern through next week.

I leave you with your Wednesday storm tracking tools for the action to our west…

Have a great day and take care.

I’ve always been fascinated by how the severe threat just to our west can be as far north as northern Illinois, but then as the system works east, the severe threat’s northern extent sinks as far south as far western Kentucky.

Today’s storm forecast appears to be a bust.
The forecast models are dubious all year long.
Does not matter weather season we’re in.
I am glad I am not a meteorologist.
