Good Friday, folks. It’s a true summer air mass rolling into the region and it’s going to hang around for a while. This steamy air will be accompanied by a few showers and thunderstorms going up. It’s a pattern threatening to lock in for the next 2 weeks before going back to cool again.
Our Thursday evening cluster of thunderstorms arrived right on cue and kicked the snot out of many computer models that just couldn’t see it coming. Luckily, I’ve seen this pattern a few times and ignored those models. 🙂
A corridor of thunderstorms will be working across the Ohio Valley today, but much of the action is to our north. Still, we need to watch northern and eastern Kentucky to see if some of those storms slip a littler farther south. Here’s today’s Severe Weather Outlook from the SPC…
Here are your Friday radars to track anything that shows up where you live…
Temps today will be deep into the 80s with humidity levels on the rise. The steamy numbers continue into Saturday with a few storms going up during the afternoon…
A cold front in the plains slowly heads our way on Sunday. That brings a broken line of showers and strong storms from west to east across the state. The very warm setup continues through next week, with another front making a run at us by the middle of the week. That should bring another chance for big boomers.
Here’s how the GFS sees it from Sunday through next week…
Have a great one and take care.
Here comes the d%$n humidity.
“Cool” at this point is not a big deal. 🙂
Great to have a few days of dry weather. The first part of 2019 started out a wet mess like 2018. It’s still rained quite a few days this spring, but we have had a few dry stretches at least during the work week. Maybe we can sneak in a few good weekends. Hamlin is right. Cool during this part of the year just means comfortable.
Plus, we have had and will likely continue to have more above average temps than below average in the current pattern we are in. We really had a nice spring overall with not much frost after the 1st of April and not excessively wet since late February either!
This morning, still cool and dry with the windows open. Yesterday was extremely comfortable with mostly sunny skies here in the Taylor County hills. The highest temperature forecast for my area is for mid to upper eighties for a couple of days next week with only a chance of isolated showers. Southeast ridge is holding strong which I think is normal for late Spring and through the Summer months. No complaints from me except I will eventually have to turn on the air conditioners. UGH !
You are like me in that I love having the windows open, especially when our home’s whole house fan is on. Nice to hear the Katydids and other nightlife outside while falling asleep.
My wife is the opposite in that she loves full blast AC during the summer… even on only moderately warm days. Just turned on AC for the first time this season as we have family staying with us, and the temperature is now 89 in Nashville.
Otherwise, if I was alone I still would have kept the AC off and whole house fan on 🙂 , especially since the dew point temperature is still relatively comfortable (low 60s). We indeed might go back to the whole house fan tonight if there is a joint consensus 😉 .
Bermuda High looks to try to take some hold
As always the energy for storms hugs the western edge of the high pressure ridge and the northeastern edge as it appears on the radar this morning. Descending compressed air in the areas included in the high pressure remain dry and the areas along the edge where the air is ascending have the best chance for precipitation.
What happened to the big chill that was talked about settling in for the end of May & 1st half of June? Kina like those snow maps in the winter.
I was hoping that would happen but I also had serious speculations if that was really going to occur.
Yeah, LOL
For those who never had any thunderstorms yet this year we had a real good light show early this morning. Lots of lighting and thunder here in Southern Ohio. I had an even inch in my rain gauge. This is about the 3 or 4 time I’ve see lighting and heard thunder this spring.
Had nice light show in Louisville. I didn’t get the storm but it was off to my northeast. Lit up the sky for hours and ushered cool air in.
On the verge of 90 today in Knox county
It was 91 in downtown Richmond today.
It may not be another 2012 or 2007, but I think we are going to have a fairly hot summer myself….unless the overall pattern we have been in since late fall last year changes.
You ought to see next weekend…threatening mid 90s in southern KY!
