Good Monday to one and all. Our work week is of and running with a much better brand of air invading the bluegrass state. But, you had better enjoy the comfy stuff while it last because another stretch of summer air will quickly surge back in.
Let us begin with today and roll forward. Highs will be in the pleasant 70s with lower humidity and a mix of sun and clouds. High pressure to our north is funneling in the cooler and drier air that can drop overnight lows into the upper 40s for some areas…
That sets the stage for another winner of a weather day on Election Day Tuesday, but you can already see summer returning to areas of far southern Kentucky…
That healthy temperature gradient gets wiped out quickly on Wednesday as southwesterly winds boost temps and humidity levels. Highs will be DEEP into the 80s…
Another major severe weather outbreak is kicking off in the plains states and this may throw a few storms into the region later Wednesday…
Steamy temps hang tough through the end of the week with highs in the 85-90 degree range. Higher humidity levels will make it feel steamier than that. There is the slightest chance for a shower or storm, but most areas stay dry.
That takes us into the Memorial Day Weekend, but some storms will try to show up…
Have a great Monday and take care.
We are really going to bake later in the week with near record highs every day, especially southern and SE KY. One rare factor that will help boost the temps is lack of rain lately. No, it isnt dry, but it is “drier” at the top soil in east KY due to less rain lately which will allow the ground to heat up more. I wonder if we rival as hot as we ever reached last year by next Monday?!
The temps still made it to 86 today but it doesn’t feel all that bad The dewpoint is 58
Local forecasters expecting upper 80’s in my locality later in the week with no mention of any showers. In the meantime enjoy the beautiful late Spring weather.
Schools are closed in parts of OK and TX due to high risk of severe storms/tornado/wind/hail threats.
I’m going to try and follow NWS Norman, etc. as much as I can today while still trying to get some work done.
First tropical storm potential 60% chance of developing in the Atlantic. If I was in the Oklahoma / Texas Panhandle I would be leaving as those Tornadoes are really firing up. A major outbreak is likely on top of what those poor people went through earlier. THE MONTH OF JUNE MAY BE OUR TURN. Very scary weather out there !!!
It was 6 yrs ago today when Moore, OK had that devastating EF-5 tornado. Looks like another memorable May 20 for many and that people might be talking about for years to come
I may be viewed as an oddball, but I dread the
Heat and humidity.
Much prefer fall/winter temperatures/ humidity levels
🙂
Thank you for all you do, Chris Bailey!
We appreciate you!
I couldn’t agree more.
Channel 9 in OK City was complaining that there were too many storm chasers blocking their storm chasers. Snooze you lose.
A nice reprieve this year after such a wet year last year.
This has still been one of the least active severe weather years I’ve seen in a very long time for central KY.
We’re actually starting to go the other way in the rainfall department.
