Good Tuesday, everyone. Our Election Day is looking awesome in terms of weather, but the same cannot be said for the next several days. Heat and humidity are about to take center stage later this week into the long Memorial Day Weekend.
Today will find those toasty temps surging back in from the southwest. This brings the 80s back into western and far southern Kentucky, but the rest of the state remains on the pleasant side. Skies will stay partly to mostly sunny, but a few storms will be possible in the west…
The heat is on starting Wednesday as temps reach the mid and upper 80s in several areas. There is the chance for a shower or thunderstorm going up…
The setup for Thursday and Friday will feature temps ranging from 85-90 degrees in many areas. With a weak boundary just to our north, a few showers and storms will again be possible…
The Memorial Day Weekend continues to look toasty with temps back into the 85-90 degree range with high humidity levels. We will also have to be on guard for a few showers and storms dropping in from the northwest during this time…
That’s a steamy pattern that looks to carry us into next week as we get set to close out May and official kick off meteorological summer.
Hurricane season also kicks off on June 1st in the Atlantic Basin, but mother nature is jumping the gun with Subtropical Storm Andrea…
The pattern is favorable for early season development to continue.
Have a great Tuesday and take care.
I think Bobt’s yard might finally get a little brown and sun scorched by next week:)
If anyone is bored, take a look at the drought monitor. It’s crazy how 95% of the country is not in any “drought levels” at all.
The drought monitor shows that the only place is the Carolina coast and a bit of the west in spots. We are fine in KY for the time being but not as wet since late winter. Really, we had a nicer spring as it hasn’t rained everyday, all be it mostly the weekends…lol. I think we are in for a hotter summer this year myself!
On the opposite side of the state, we could still use a break from the rain. 25.00″ of rain for the year and no dry weekends since St. Patrick’s Day.
To clarify my remark…we’ve had 25.00″ of rain up here this year which is a lot but maybe not as much as others. But we have not had a chance yet to dry out like others have had apparently and a dry spell would be welcome.
Yeah, SE KY is about perfect right now; it is not too or too dry. I hope your area dries up some. I am at 30.11 in on the year but almost 20 inches of the total fell in Jan/Feb with about average March through May precip here.
Just looked up the recent status of El nino and there is a 70% chance of El nino continuing through the Summer and then decrease this coming Autumn and winter. In past El nino events, the Summer are above normal in temperatures and below normal on precipitation. We shall see.
As I’m sitting near an open window I’m about to freeze to death. Got to close it. Upper eighties can’t come soon enough as long as the dew point stays in the mid fifties. Don’t really need too much rain as of yet. Overall not a bad finish to Spring.
Maybe you should move down there we have had a few days in the upper 80s not counting today and at least 1 in the lower 90s.
Next week….Yikes. Already has Harlan at 94 next Tuesday. It has been several years since I have seen several 90s forecasted before June!
looks like were finally breaking out of the very wet pattern that we been in for the last year and half. I’m ready for more dry days to enjoy the outdoors.
