Good Sunday, everyone. We have another toasty temperature day taking shape across the Commonwealth, but storms may wind up taking center stage before the day is done. As a matter of fact, there is the potential for a few strong to severe storms through the evening.
Highs today are back in the 85-90 degree range for many, with a heat index a little better than that. A weak boundary will sink a littler farther south today, touching off a few rounds of showers and thunderstorms. The greatest severe weather threat is across the northern half of the state. Here’s the Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
Large hail and damaging winds are the primary threats from any of the big boomers. I will have your tracking toys in a bit.
Memorial Day will find that boundary still hanging around the north and east and that could fire off a few more clusters of showers and storms…
Once again, a few strong storms will be possible and could crash your cookouts.
A fairly stout cold front may cross the region late Wednesday or Thursday, touching off another round of storms…
Temperatures behind that front will be cooler than where we are now, with another shot of cooler air likely arriving during the first full week of June.
Let’s get back to where we are right now. Here are your tracking tools for the day…
Possible Watch Areas
Make it a great Sunday and take care.
First 90 degree temperature for the year here in my back yard late yesterday afternoon, but the breeze and the dew point in the low to mid 60’s made it feel tolerable. Forecasters for my area of central Kentucky only give us a 10% chance of seeing any rain showers later today. The high pressure system is beginning to erode at it’s northern edge good for those farms that need rain in those areas around Lexington. Our best chance of receiving any precipitation comes later in the week forecasters are predicting. Next weekend’s cool down prediction will be most welcome, that is if we receive a good soaking rain before.
I am not certain that the storms will hold together far enough SE to hit Harlan, but it looks like you will receive a quick hitting storm around 6PM in your neck of the woods:)
Large tornadoes in Oklahoma and there have been reported fatalities. This Spring here lately has been extremely dangerous in the central plains and parts of the mid west and coverage of this has been minimal in my opinion.
This is more of a non-severe thunderstorm watch. More like a rainy crappy day watch.
I beg to differ.
Me to we had a whopping 0.02 inches of rain it was sunny and in the low 90s again today for the 5th day in a row.
It fell apart before reaching Harlan as well with just a brief shower!
