Good Thursday, everyone. Rounds of showers and thunderstorms will continue to push across the bluegrass state for the next several days. As tropical moisture gets involved in the pattern, we will need to be on guard for some high water issues developing.
Let’s begin with today and roll forward. Showers and storms will be rather common, with breaks between the rounds. The greatest concentration is across the southern half of the state and this may be the area to watch for any local high water issues of the day…
Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms will be common through the weekend and into Monday. These storms will get an influx of tropical action, leading to some hefty rain totals. That will keep the, at least, local high water threat going.
Temps will be held in check during this time, but an honest to goodness trough develops across the eastern half of the country into next week…
That’s a very cool setup around here and for much of the country…
As we look farther down the weather road, the European Weeklies from WeatherBell continue to show a very active and wet pattern through the middle of July. Look at all the above normal precipitation showing up…
That’s a lot of water for a lot of people across the country. A map like that would also ensure true heat will have another tough time getting established this summer. Basically, it’s a continuation of the past several summers.
Have a great Thursday and take care.
This is going to be another 70 inch + annual rainfall year for many of us….you can about bank on it.
I had 1.44 in for yesterday.
31.70 in on the year-to-date
Bold but easy prediction: Most of us in KY approach 10 inches of rain for June!
Terry .94 storm total and for the year here in Taylor county 23.67.
Absolutely disgusting, but nothing we can do.
That’s way true.
I just hope it doesn’t lead to a fourth straight nonexistent Winter.
Me too Jimbo ! I don’t think I can take another winter like last year.
Yeah, we need to reverse the seasonal total of a few inches of snow fall and a few feet of rain!
Harlan is suppose to average 17 inches of snow annually but seems many years are below this total with only a few years like 2014 and 2015 above average anymore. Other than a few years ago, it really hasn’t t been bad since the 1990s during winter. Mild and rainy has ruled the weather too long!
High humidity and 70s dew points is the worst kind of weather.. give me 95 with low humidity over that wet crap any day of the week.
I’ll take 75 degrees and low humidity.
That was nice on Monday. I would take that for a while and then maybe a little “dry” heat for pool/garden weather.
Yeah, I forgot about the heating degree days for the crops if the farmers ever get them in the field.
June has started out like the summers over the last few years. Daily rain threats and cloud cover. Really wish the seasons would return to what they used to be. Way too much rain and lack of sunshine for my liking..
No desire for a 2012 or 2007 summer, but somewhere in between.
Summers never really use to be this cloudy, humid and rainy for such a long period. I’m sure we will have the old fashion Summers, Autumn, Winter and Spring again, maybe starting this Autumn ?
Back in 1976 to 1978 when we had the very severe winters, the following Summers were hot and dry and I was irrigating my farm of ornamental landscape plants almost every day. Highs temperatures in the mid to upper nineties were quite common.
Here are a few noteworthy statistics from the National Climate Report for May 2019 (full report not out yet)….
National Maximum Temperature rank – 10th coolest
National Precipitation rank – 2nd wettest
National Precipitation rank from Jun 2018 – May 2019: 2nd wettest
Actually, precipitation ranks appear to be record wettest according to the brief highlights of the report
