Good Sunday, everyone. We continue to see rounds of showers and thunderstorms working across the bluegrass state. This action is dumping heavy rains across much of the region and this will roll into Monday, leaving us with the potential for more flash flooding. Behind all this comes some VERY cool air into the region.
Let’s begin with today. Low pressure continues to slowly spin across the Tennessee Valley and this will continue to keep the rounds of rain coming at us. This low is the same low we were talking about last weekend down in the Gulf, so it’s loaded with tropical moisture. That means any shower or storm can put down a tremendous amount of rain in any one location, causing more flooding issues.
Here are your trackers for the day…
A cold front moves in on Monday, bringing more in the way of heavy rains across central and eastern Kentucky. That keeps our flash flood threat going through the afternoon and early evening.
MUCH cooler air comes in behind this later in the day and that sets the stage for one heck of a cool period of weather. Lows by Tuesday morning may even drop into the upper 40s across the eastern half of the state. Check out the lows from the GFS…
Tuesday looks great with highs in the low and middle 70s.
An even cooler shot comes in here for the middle and end of the week. This is not a summer looking pattern…
That has more of a cold weather season look to it and is pretty incredible to see this time year. That will bring a few showers and storms in here as the cool kicks in. Highs on Thursday may struggle to get out of the 60s…
Lows by Friday morning may make a run into the upper 40s and low 50s once again…
Temps won’t be as cool beyond this, but there are still no signs true summer heat around these parts.
Have a great Sunday and take care.
Thanks to yesterday afternoon’s heavy rainfall, the Mesonet sites in Barren and Casey counties have now exceeded 6″ for the week
Disgusting…..
All the good old summer time. Picnic’s and pool parties. And winter coats. Lol.
Looks like Autumn will arrive next week. A year without a Summer ?
As of 8:15 this morning, right at 3″ for the week at my place in Valley Station, far more than the Louisville MAI airport
Crazy!!
It has mostly missed Harlan but still close to 3 inches of rain for the whole week at the house and moving towards the 34 inch total on the year. I only need about 15 more inches and 2019 AVERAGE ANNUAL rainfall is already met with a little over 6 and 1/2 months of the year left to go!!!
Terry, we miss out on the heaviest rainfall so far here in Taylor County with just .94 inches storm total. Most fell to our southwest and to the north and east.
That cool forecast is a dream come true. I wish it would roll right on through August. But I will take an extended day treat like this anytime during the Summer months. I just hope the trade-off to get those cool temp’s is not constant rain.
It’s not a dream come true.
How can you tell someone its not their dream?
If the person has no AC it would be 🙂
Amen brother!
I love the cool weather!
Heat and humidity is terrible
Can’t wait till fall!
Jimbo we need to save some of that cold and moisture for SNOW this coming Winter, which I hope we all get.
I cannot see it happening.
It looks like 2019 is going to be a repeat of 2018.
40 degrees with rain follow by backside flurries.
I hope I am wrong.
I would bet on this as well.
Currently, all oscillations are in the right phase for blocking and above average precip which brings cool, June gloom…too bad we couldn’t cash in on this pattern somewhere between December and March:(
I hear you and would normally agree, but the last 3 nonexistent Winters have left me jaded. I’ll take a cool below normal Summer when I can get it. Since most of our Summers are wet with oppressive humidity.
Perfect pattern this week for a ton of snow…if only January or February. Sigh:(
Looks wet even beyond the mid week cool spell as yet another system looks to return by next Sunday!
I have a pipeline of heavy rainers to my south. Hopefully, the storms can keep on moving
