Good Monday, everyone. As the rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms slowly win down today, a much cooler than normal pattern is taking control of our weather. Even with this cool pattern, things can’t completely dry out. I’ve got, at least, two more systems rolling our way through the weekend.
Today’s showers and storms will be more prominent across central and eastern Kentucky as a cold front works in from the west. Heavy rains may still cause some flooding issues in these areas, but drier and cooler air takes control from west to east.
Here are your trackers for the day…
Tuesday looks like an absolutely awesome day with a mix of sun and clouds and highs only in the low and middle 70s. The day may start with temps in the 40s…
Another deep trough dives in from the northwest late Wednesday and Thursday. This will bring some gusty showers and thunderstorms with it…
That’s a cool setup that turns even cooler. Thursday’s highs may struggle to get to 70 in some areas. Lows by Friday morning may take another dip into the 40s for some…
Yet another deep trough may dive in here next weekend. This one may have more showers and thunderstorms to work with…
Temps will continue to run very cool and the GFS says we make another run toward the 40s for lows…
Another bummer of a summer? It’s starting to look that way.
Have a happy Monday and take care.
I’m not gonna call it a bummer of a summer it could be drought and a 105 everyday my crops are not doing great in this weather but they would be doing a lot worse with no rain we’ve become a society that is all about lesuire and recreation there are stil people who rely on the weather to make a living there is more to summer than mowing your lawn and going swimming and going to the lake
Good perspective. 105 everyday and no rain would be much worse.
I’ve seen that kind of weather back in 1980 after Mt. Saint Helen’s blew off her top in May of that year. Hot Summer and no rain.
I agree with you 100% ! I was in the agricultural business starting in the mid 1960’s to 2008. Hope your crops improve over the next month and you have a great yield.
It is a stressful industry farming good years and bad years. I know how it is and always made me angry when people would tell me that the rain coming when we were in a severe drought would spoil their weekend.
Nobody here is desiring drought and 105.
I don’t know Jeff ? I’m sure some would want that kind of Summer but not me. I like a warm Summer with highs in the upper 80’s and lows in the 60’s with moderately dry.
Ugh.
Bummer of a Summer is the new norm. It’s a bad year when it’s too much rain for both the people that enjoy being out in the sunshine and the farmers too. Wish we could get a happy medium with the rain and the sunshine. We get way too much rain with this new climate. Just glad that April and May was kind of decent for a change in my section of the state. June has been a total bummer..
A bummer of a summer? Rain or Dry I will take 70s all summer long. The real bummers have been waiting for a snowstorm all winter to only receive cold rain every time.
My thoughts exactly. I will take a cool non humid Summer as a little back pay for three miserable non Winters in a row.
Jimbo, I spent some time in the Pacific Northwest and that is exactly what they have in the Summer, but the winters are cloudy, cool and rainy and seldom snowy unless you are in the mountains.
I have been in the Pacific Northwest too. They generally do have the type weather you mentioned. Key difference is they don’t usually have the oppressive humidity that is almost always present here from May thru September.
I don’t doubt one bit that summer shows its true colors in July and August. And heck, probably September too. Mother Naure always finds its way of balancing things out. Especiallly around here.
Our average high here in London in June is 82. Shows 83 by Friday. 6 or 7 degrees less on weds or thurs…Pool is 76 and sunshine is coming….no biggie lol. We will roll right on with SUMMER just like always
Sorry 4 degrees less than average weds….10 degrees less Thursday. ..5 degrees less on friday….back up sat and Sunday. And SUNNY almost every day!
It’s too early to call it a “bummer of a summer.” July can turn hot and dry in a moment and we’d all be complaining about the endless heat. We don’t know what we’re going to get beyond a week or two. I’m willing to still give it a chance.
We need more growing degree days and that is going to take sunny and warmer days which doesn’t appear to be in our future. I still think that ENSO El nino is one of the factor that is responsible for the rain and cooler weather ahead ?
Harlan really got skimmed on the rainfall through this afternoon compared to most of the state since last week’s wet pattern change. I ended up right at 3 inches but that was over a week timespan. With the upper ground dry prior to last week’s rain from April and May heat, I had no flooding issues here and just damp but not soggy like other areas of the state.
While Black Mountain is the leader in the precipitation department once again at over 41″, surprisingly at least to me was western Kentucky’s location in Paducah with over 40″ now.
