Good Sunday, everyone. Our stormy setup didn’t stay away too long as it’s back in a big way. Rounds of showers and thunderstorms are flaring up again today and this is going to lock in for the long haul. It’s a setup that may throw strong to severe storms at us, along with putting down a ton of rain.
As mentioned, today’s storms come at us in waves. Each wave has the potential to bring hail and high winds. Here’s today’s Severe Weather Outlook from the SPC…
The forecast is pretty straight forward from here as rounds of showers and thunderstorms continue to target the region for the foreseeable future. Heavy rainfall will likely cause some flooding issues from time to time over the next few weeks. The rainfall numbers continue to be off the charts…
The Ensembles continue to be all aboard the rain train during this same time. Check out how much of our region is forecast to have above normal rains during this time…
This above normal rain pattern is because we are stuck in a temperature battle zone between warmth in the southeast and the cool just to our west and north…
That looks a lot like the same temperature pattern we’ve been stuck in for more than a year now. It’s no wonder record setting rains have been common around here.
Here are your Sunday tracking tools to get you through the day…
Make it a great day and take care.
Small scale convective storms are rapidly increasing in areal coverage near my place in Valley Station, out ahead of the main complex to my northwest, looks like a combination of low-level jet and outflow boundaries. This could play a factor in redevelopment later today here.
Indy has had about 4″ in past 24 hours; Cincy 2-3″.
Although areal flood watches may not be necessary at this time, a flash flood watch should be issued or at least be extended southward, based on recent trends. Water rescues were being done in areas from Indianapolis to Cincinnati.
Happy Father’s Day to one and all. Even though my Father has past his presents is with me each and everyday.
Louisville is about to get clobbered. Hope you all won’t have too much damage from this line of strong storms ?
So far here in Taylor County it is just warm, dry and windy with clouds beginning to move in. I don’t expect much in the way of weather here unless we get Sun energy later this afternoon.
Here in Southern Ohio it’s already got a good start. Most of the corn crops I’ve seen here the corn is not very high for this time of year. And some of the fields haven’t been planted and probably won’t be after this week and next. Pretty bad for the farmers.
Corn Farmer’s always told me that the corn should be ” knee high by the fourth of July”
That’s true for when me and you we boys. I heard the same thing. But corn grown today I’ve seen it over your waist high at fourth of July.
I have seen it tosseling by the 4th down in SE KY at times in the past several, more recent years. Actually, a small patch down the road from me is shoulder high right now. It was planted in mid April and never saw freezing temps this year as last 32 was April 3rd!
What the corn Farmer’s grow now is all GMO and RR. The genetics allows it to grow faster but it is not necessarily better than the corn grown in the past in my opinion.
I believe it.
Line just moved through my area with 30 mph winds, moderate to heavy rain, some thunder, not a big deal. May get 0.50″ out of this one since its still raining lightly now
Mike that’s good news.
Not my idea of fun, but oh well. 🙂
Far Northern KY got slammed yesterday evening and overnight and now about to again. With flood warnings still active up there, this area may have some significant flooding this afternoon.
Yep the main road I take into work is closed due to a landslide. I will have to take the interstate tomorrow morning along with everybody else and I am not looking forward to that.
Terry, the Southeast Ridge is doing a good job of keeping the rain and storms out of our area. Here in Taylor County, there hasn’t been any rain just some wind and thunder to the north so far.
Not a drop here through 1PM, so I don’t call this a bad day at all and 4th straight dry day in our mini break before it ends! It is now feeling like May again, lol, dewpoints near 70 with temp in the upper 80s!
Heavy storms came through Madison County earlier but it’s nice now.
Mid 70s dew points= mid and upper 90s heat index western KY..
Louisville hit 91 degrees for a high temperature today that was rather unexpected and not forecast
I got to 93 today 87 yesterday.
Trees down all over the roads in Fleming
Sunny and 88 here in Corbin. Perfect muggy Summer day.
This looks like my first significant rainfall since almost sunrise. But, there is some intense cells moving in. I wouldn’t be surprised to see an inch or two out of these.
This is a typical Ohio Valley setup for repeat heavy rain…zilch here in Harlan…weather is so different down here compared to most of the state and surrounding states to my NW and N. I might even stay dry another day tomorrow, just depends if the front sinks south or not!
