Good Friday, everyone. Here. We. Go. Again. Rounds of showers and thunderstorms will rumble back into the state later today and carry us through the weekend. The setup is there for severe storms and flooding rains to once again impact the Commonwealth.
Much of the daylight hours on this Friday should be on the dry side, but that’s gonna change by evening. Clusters of strong to severe storms are developing to our northwest and will dive toward the southeast. The setup is there for damaging winds to accompany these types of storm clusters, so that’s the main threat. The initial round is likely to target central and western Kentucky and this is the area with the greatest severe risk from the SPC for later today…
This setup should carry us through Saturday and Sunday a boundary remains across the region…
No, it’s not going to rain all the time, but when it does, it’s gonna put it down! Some areas may pick up on several more inches of rain during this time.
Showers and storms should hang around into early next week. Yippee! 🙁
As usual, I have you all set to track today’s boomers…
Possible Watch Areas
Have a great Friday and take care.
Happy first day of astronomical summer everyone….. 1969 style!

Dig those plaids and “groovy” hairstyles! 🙂
Great year 1969, not too hot of a Summer and a beautiful Autumn followed by the snowiest Winter I ever experience which lasted well into March 1970.
Good “Saturday” everyone? Well, can’t blame Chris as actually a lot of us want to push the clock forward and put a dagger to this endlessly wet sloppy weather. Lucky that there have barely been just enough dry periods to keep the g-r-a-s-s mowed.
Rain, rain go away. Come back after a few weeks. 😉
I always learned it this way “rain rain go away, come a again another day.” But I’m old school. LOL
Dew points will be oppressive this weekend mid 70’s.
Only in the River bottoms, not every where in the state.
Enjoy the present dew points which are in the 50’s.
Storm total from yesterday morning 1.02 inches in Taylor county followed by a very pleasant afternoon with evening temperatures in the 70’s. The predicted storms coming in from the northwest later today reminds me of a type of Summer time ” Clipper System” or upper level low. Too bad the front is predicted to “hang up” for tomorrow and expected to have an increase in thunderstorms through out my area of central Kentucky. Heat and Humidity forecast for next week. Well it’s Summer in the good ole Ohio River Valley. Winter talk will be here before long.
Well, I can say this about the weather: I have never had more growth for my hardy banana trees and Elephant Ears than I have this year in my mini garden! It only mid June and my subtropical plants are HIGE this year:)
I understand, however, this is NOT GOOD WEATHER for regular garden veggies and I feel real bad for farmers, especially NE of me in the Midwest farming belt! This will likely be a very costly agricultural year for vegetable loss:(
Great Terry, I never had the pleasure of growing Elephant Ears or hardy Banana Trees. In my nursery I grew mainly Azaleas and Rhododendrons and American Holly Trees for landscapers and for retail sale as well as wholesale for more than 40 years. Here in Taylor County the corn is about knee high but the soybeans don’t appear to be doing very well. We need more Sunny days and warm temperatures for a couple of weeks to really get plants growing.
And so it goes…..splish splash
“On a Saturday Night” LOL
Make it a Good One everyone and keep your eyes to the skies for storms which I hope we don’t get ?
Dang what a cluster of storms diving out of Illinois! Watch out from Paducah to Louisville first, then on south and east for the rest of us after dark.
I agree and have always agreed with Chris as to why we have to get warnings before watches about 80% of the time?! I mean, this complex should begin entering KY within 6 hours or less but no flood or flash flood watches!
It’s gotten real sticky here in far western,ky. Hopefully those storms will be in the calm side when it gets here. With the sun out and how humid it is I don’t like the set up that it could bring.
Illinois getting hammered.
We have some cirrocumulus clouds forming against a beautiful blue sky here in far SE KY. Cirrocumulus are a great, not too common high level cloud that is a good severe weather indicator when seen!
Batten down the hatches mate, thar she blows.
With favorable dynamics even into SE KY, this may be the most widespread event so far this year for at least wind damage reports! I see it crossing the entire state by about 2AM. Eaat TN now has a severe storm watch.
Nah, more bark than bite storms just moved through north central Kentucky nothing exciting at all.
It appears this is a southern half of KY event as it missed Louisville to the south and is moving SE. I think only far SE KY will get severe potential once it moves east of 75 as the main bow is going to cross into TN.
