Good Saturday, everyone. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before… Rounds of showers and thunderstorms continue to work across Kentucky. This same pattern looks to persist through the weekend and into the start of next week, bringing the potential for severe weather and flooding rains.
Storm clusters continue to push in from the west and northwest today and some of these may be strong or severe. Just like yesterday, damaging winds and large hail are the main threats. Here’s today’s Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
The threat will persist into Sunday…
In addition to the severe threat, the flash flood threat continues to be very high, so keep a close eye on creeks and streams through Monday.
The pattern next week looks to feature seasonal temps with storms still around, but likely in much more scattered fashion. Still, we can’t seem to find any prolonged dry periods.
Looking farther down the weather road toward the first week of July, some of the models are trying to stick a tough back into our region. That could make for a cooler than normal first week…
The CFS Seasonal Model continues to show a cooler setup through July. Here’s the 7 day period for the middle of the month…
Here’s what it has to end July and kick off August…
Here is your daily dose of severe weather tracking tools…
Possible Watch Areas
Make it a sensational Saturday and take care.
I guess it is going to be cooler than normal because it is going to be raining the majority of the time.
The storms past through my county before 9:00 EST with not much of fanfare, but the clouds were impressive, but soon leveled off with just a short shower. Last night into early this morning was quiet and 0.00 rainfall recorded. High winds were recorded to our south into Tennessee. Three day rainfall for my county of Taylor was 0.91 inches so we are not dry by any means.
I read that July will be cooler and wet and other models are bringing a hot high pressure ridge for the rest of the Summer. I don’t know as it doesn’t seem like all the weather models are on the same page these days. I’ll say equal chances ?
I am not for sure why SE KY is not under a flash flood watch. The storms last night, although we had a warning, wasn’t really severe with wind, we had a ton of rain with most areas down here over an inch. I recorded 1.20. This next complex looks to also smack SE KY around noon.
Raining really hard here now with some thunder as the squall line moves south.
Absolutely terrible setup.
RIP SUMMER:P
Could be worse. NWS: Freeze Warnings are in effect for parts of Nevada and Wyoming. Snow remains
possible in higher elevations of the West, especially in the Central
Rockies where several inches of snow is forecast
I’ll take that kind of weather over this anytime of the year !
We were spared the severe wind damage here at least in my neck of the woods yesterday but others weren’t so fortunate. Right now git a system of storms moving through. Hopefully the day wont be a total loss.
Heavy rain with thunder is moving back into Harlan but nothing severe this morning.
Now we have complex #3 and #4 already developing to the WNW of KY!
I have hit the 9 inch mark for the month with whats coming through now.
About the same amount here also Andy.
I don’t see how most of us don’t top 10 inches for June. I am little behind many areas of the state and still at 7 inches here but plenty to come and 8 days of the month to go!
Yeah, Terry it looks like the same set up as late yesterday in the St. Louis area heading east southeast towards Kentucky. More heavy rains will move in later this evening I suppose. Summer time “Clipper Systems” if there is such an event ?
Have a great and safe afternoon and evening everyone !
Complex # 3 looks to smack Western KY in the next few hours!
Wow parts of Colorado got up to 2 feet of snow today.
