Good Monday, folks. Our work week is off and running with additional showers and storms rumbling across the state and a few could be severe. As the week rolls on, the storms may not be as widespread as what we’ve been seeing, but the boomers will still be roaming about the region.
A cold front is rolling toward the state today, bringing an increase in showers and thunderstorms. These storms could produce high winds and hail. Here’s today’s severe storms risk area from the Storm Prediction Center…
In addition to the severe threat, these storms will be loaded with torrential rains, leading to the potential for flash flooding. Outside of the storms, hazy sun and temps in the upper 70s and 80s will be common.
Scattered showers and storms will continue into Tuesday as our front slowly pulls away. Still, moisture remains for the middle of the week and that is likely to fire up a few more storms…
By later this week, a significant trough develops across the Great Lakes and the northeast. That means we get into a pattern of northwest to southeast moving thunderstorm clusters…
That unleashes a cool blast of air behind it as we close June and say hello to July.
My next update will throw some seasonal models your way. We’ll take a look at one that now goes all the way through the upcoming winter months. You know you want to see it… Right? 🙂
Here’s another edition of your storm tracking tools…
Possible Watch Areas
Have a great Monday and take are.
I will produce my own seasonal model and it will show a lot of rain.
I’m at 9.17″ for the month at my place in Valley Station. The official location at Louisville International is only 0.13″ away from at least tying a top ten wettest June. Lexington is a little over a half inch away from a top ten entry. Covington/Cincinnati already in top ten
I don’t know how much rain we received here as I can’t find a rain gauge that I believe is accurate. I looked at the closest airport for said information but they apparently took that part off there web site, so I can’t post that anymore.
Correction: their not there.
After the Fourth of July, I’m ready for Autumn and Winter. Really we could skip Autumn and go straight to Winter would be fine with me. I’ve just about had enough unplugging my computer, phones, and TV from the possibility of lightning strikes which there are plenty where I live. Late yesterday afternoon we had very strong winds come up and very heavy rain with loud thunder and lightning which lasted about forty five minutes. After the storm was over I went out to see if there was any damage to the exterior of my home, there wasn’t but limbs were down which I gathered and put to the side. What amazes me there wasn’t any power outage which is common here at lease twice a month during the storm season. Hate this new climate, yeah I said it, I feel now that it’s really happening ! Climate Change for the worse especially in the Mid West and the Ohio River Valley. The funny part about it we will get a cold snowy Winter and I will change my mind again. LOL
Just check the radar and guess what more rain and storms on my door step UGH ! Will this CRAP ever end ???
Tomorrow
Glad to see that even Schroeder has moved over to the “way too much rain” club. Hopefully we get a couple of days to dry out. I’m sure it won’t last long.
It’s seems it’s always tomorrow. LOL
Now Chris, I’m starting not to enjoy reading the blog anymore. Ha. How are we ever supposed to enjoy summer with all the rain?
Oh well–Guess the Lord knows what we need better than I do! Thanks for the update Chris, and everyone have a blessed Monday!
Harlan is on a 48 hr dry streak as all rain missed us yesterday and I was about the only county in the state to stay dry! My luck will likely run out today; however, this week looks decent for more sun and less rain until around Saturday starting tomorrow morning…we will take what we can get for dry time!
As far as winter talk and this IS NOT A DIG ON CHRIS, I really need a longer break after ALL MODELS and EVERYONE’S WINTER FORECAST (INCLUDING MY OWN) WAS TERRIBLY INACCURATE LAST YEAR. I can’t stand the thought of winter talk this early after how bad the past few winters have been. Maybe by Labor Day, I will be interested in winter talk.
Sorry everyone that I went off on a rant earlier, but this just isn’t what Summer suppose to be. Have a great afternoon and evening folks !
Neither are the Winter’s but it is what it is
Long range models are a waste of time!
Roger that.
Good thing our tax $s don’t pay for them…..
