Good Friday, folks. It’s a mainly nice weather day across the region, but we are rolling into the weekend with an increase in the steamy temps and sometimes stormy skies. The storm action will actually increase as we head into next week with a possible tropical connection from the Gulf.
Let’s start with today and roll forward.
Highs are back into the middle and upper 80s for many with a 90 in the west. That’s also the area we could see a shower or storm go up later in the afternoon and evening. Here’s regional radar just in case…
A better shot for a few showers and storms rolls in from west to east later tonight into Saturday. This is on the leading edge of the true steamy air pushing in from the southwest. Any storm that’s out there can produce some very heavy rains…
Temps range from the upper 80s to low 90s in many areas. That temperature trend looks to carry us into the first half of next week. This is a true steam bath of an atmosphere.
A few showers and storms will be noted, especially as a system drops in from the northwest by the middle of next week…

Temps will come down several degrees by the middle and end of the week, but this isn’t a pattern likely to turn cool anytime soon. As a matter of fact, I think we are going into a warmer than normal setup likely to carry us through much of September! It may take a hurricane or two to knock this pattern out for good.
Have a great Friday and take care.
I can’t think of anything good to give us snow lovers any hope for the up coming Autumn and Winter. Today I just feel empty inside.
Ah, at least we are now in a different pattern than the entire period from late 2017/2018/first half of 2019!
Hi Schroeder, yesterday you ask me do I remember the 69 -70 snowy winter. Yes I do I was only 9 at the time and live in Henderson County.
I have a feeling we come close to repeating last fall-blazing hot until October. Heat in August I just begrudgingly accept. I like to see some hints and transition to fall by mid September, but that doesn’t look likely.
I know and agree! We have had some hot/wet/crappy falls for some years now. The last dry fall was 2016 but it was still MUCH above average temp wise. 2016 was also when Gatlinburg nearly burnt down. Harlan also had a very rough fire season that year but the last two years where hotter and wetter than average with almost 0 forest fires, thankfully.
Last year was actually quite cool and we had some nice foliage as well. Getting there was the issue. We had well above normal temperatures through September and early October. Once those powerful fall cold fronts came through in mid October, it pretty much put the kabosh on summer. But, man, September was brutal!
Where are you located at? I didn’t get much color until a few days after Halloween in the valley areas of Harlan. Then, it got cold in November but October was was above average last year in SE KY on the monthly average. Of course, Black and Pine Mt had some foliage change in October last year up high but it really hasn’t been too pretty in a while like it use to be down my way.
No mention of tropical Atlantic named storms for the next several days, though this does not mean one could not “pop up”.
According Dr. Klotzbach, “the last time no named storms occurred between July 15 (when Barry dissipated) and August 19 was in 1982.” After the 23rd of this month, an Atlantic named tropical entity will normally occur once every 8 days through September 24, the heart of the season for tropical development. Will any of these affect the U.S and ultimately our weather here in Kentucky? I don’t think it will be as exciting as the last few years here, but if we can get at least one more, that would be nice.
I can remember back in the 60’s and 70’s the so call scientists were saying the earth temperature was treading to ice age . Now our earth climate has gone the opposite ways. My opinion the climate comes in cycles in certain intent. Nobody has records of how the weather was before mankind or even the beginning of mankind. That’s why some of this warmer climate is hog wash. Got one question has the ocean water has risen over our coastal cities that they predicted 20-30 years ago. No is the answer
