Good Saturday, everyone. We have a serious case of August steam pushing into the region and it’s bringing a few thunderstorms along for the ride. Some of those may show up out there today, but the biggest threat comes our way as we head into next week.
It’s a pattern skewed warmer than normal and it’s likely to feature frequent thunderstorms over the next few weeks, at least.
Let’s begin with today. Temps are in the upper 80s and low 90s, but a cluster of thunderstorms may have something to say about that. These storms won’t impact everyone, but should roll from west to east through the early afternoon. The storms will likely weaken the farther east they get…
Sunday is another hot and humid day with lows of high 80s and low 90s showing up. The sweat factor is super high because the humidity levels are going to be way up there. I can’t rule out a storm or two going up at some point.
Monday looks very similar in terms of temps and sky condition as we get ready for storms to increase by Tuesday and Wednesday. This increase in storms will happen as moisture returns from the Gulf of Mexico and combines with a system dropping in from the northwest…
That will knock the temps back down for the second half of the week.
The pattern beyond that continues to look fairly active..
While I continue to think the pattern skews warmer than normal through the rest of the month and into September, the latest Ensembles are trending in the opposite direction for the final week of August…
I dare the weather to make a liar out of me! 🙂 Certainly won’t be the first time.
Have a great Saturday and take care.
Sure are a man when you can admit that about the weather because if I had got half the rain chances and cooler then normal temperatures that you have a talked about on here for several weeks my farm wouldn’t look like a desert now
I know how you feel and I’m sorry that your crop yields will be low this harvest season. I’ve been through it many times in the nursery business. The late 1980’s severe drought almost put me out of business. For now on everything I read on long term forecast I will take with a “Huge grain of Salt.”
Never trust long distance forecast models!
Especially when the graphics are stating colder than normal.
That’s exactly what I’m going to do for now to this day forward.
I couldn’t agree more. Pretty much all Summer at my location has been daily thunderstorm threat and below normal temps behind the next front. Neither of which has came true for me. Except for one brief cooldown in mid July. Very little rain. But I am not complaining after the last couple soggy years
At least after almost 24 months, WE ARE IN A DIFFERENT PATTERN. It doesn’t necessarily mean any foreshadowing for the up coming winter, but it is a different pattern now!
Thanks WinterLover for responding to my post from the other day. I agree that this political climate we are in now is getting out of hand. What upset me yesterday was now the political faction that is trying to push as a fact that it is raining and snowing plastic and Greenland is almost void of Glaciers. That question you brought up last evening ” where’s the rising waters” is one they can’t prove. I feel now that the climate has not really changed that much in my lifetime and I’m 68 years old. The information they are feeding us through the media is fake news and I’m afraid people are falling for it. I hate politics it is pure evil and the devil is behind it and using the internet to spread violence throughout the world. Let me tell them this that GOD is going to stop this, it well written in the BIBLE.
This has always been my take on the “climate change” farse. The sample size of ACCURATE historical weather data they are using to come to this “conclusion” (global warming is NOT conclusive) is so, so, so small compared to the life span of planet earth. Again, I am admittedly a meteorological layman, but I’d say we have maybe, maybe 80 yrs of accurate weather data.
No credible scientist would come to a “conclusion” with such a minute sample size. It’s all politics.
Amen
Climate change isn’t a farce (or is it all politics), and believing it is isn’t going to change the future of this planet and what the many decades of burning fossil fuels have done to the earth’s atmosphere. You really want to see the significant effects of climate change? Go visit arctic regions. Believe it or not (not factoring the media, religion, conservatives, liberals, Al Gore, Trump, etc, into this), there are far more intelligent, credible scientists who know a heck of a lot more than most of us, that you just can’t discredit because you believe the science is a farse. You can’t argue with all that data, not only weather records, but data from arctic ice-core samples, soil-samples, tree-rings, etc, to see that our climate and atmosphere is undergoing a rapid and unprecedented change. Continuing to live in a fantasy land and denying it isn’t going to help the problem. Humans in general are very apathetic and ingrained with irrational beliefs, and that is a huge part of the problem facing the health of this planet today.
LOL I think we’re not going to depend on Bronze Age Science in the 21st century.
On the Water Vapor loop it is hard to watch all the rain in Missouri and Illinois evaporate as it approaches either the Wabash River or the Mississippi River. Any thoughts on why this is happening ?
If you lose the forcing of the low level jet the complex of storms will just fade away over time and that’s what’s happening.
Great explanation.
This has been a terrible August to-date in Harlan for boring/dry weather. What normally is a drier month compared to most of the other months (average around 4 inches) is incredibly dry this year with only 2 mini rain events so far and at .40 inches, most of that was August 2nd. I know it could change before the month is out, but it is super dry short-term, not a drought yet here. As bad as it is, I am actually wetter with my 4/10 an inch than the Mesonet location which usually whoops my butt, LOL. At least I am still ahead on the year but no longer in running with 2018 as we shut the faucet off but never did last year. 43.10 in on the year-to-date.
Currently sitting at 0.24 inches for the month 46.7 for the yr .
Thanks for your response Schroeder and. Yes God will end the evil of times that we are witnessing today..
Mark the point that I made on this blog last night there’s no solid evidence of all warmer climate theory. Say for instance 20-30 years ago the scientist were saying our coastal cities will be under water due to the rise of ocean water levels. As of today that hasn’t occure . weather climate comes in cycle it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out. I’m 60 years old and I have seen it in my own experience why sometime we have extremes weather. He’ll I remember they were talking about were all going to burn up because a hole was found in the ozone layer. Now that hole doesn’t even exist Geeze .
I believe there’s enough evidence to support whatever theory of the month one wants to prescribe to. The 70’s featured the ice age alarmists, which of course gave birth to the global warming/climate change alarmists. I have no doubt there’s not evidence supporting a warming climate. I also have no doubt that this there a political force behind this. Also, yes, there were some very spectacular predictions offered up 15-20 years ago, very few have materialized. It’s funny that the average layperson gets beat up and insulted for having an opinion that counters the current flavor the day. Yet the “experts” and their supporters really don’t like explaining why their doomsday predictions have failed to see the light of day.
Google ozone aerosol sprays.
Do you have a link regarding a credible science predicting coastal flooding within 20 to 30 years?
Yes and I also can remember they were saying the oil supply will run out in the turn of current century. It’s either that your to young or have ignore the news back in the late 70s
I forgot all about the hole in the ozone layer thing YEARS ago. Personally, anyone can see climate change exists……the big question is “would it happen anyway, regardless of humans? I lean towards yes. That being said, humans have done a great job trashing parts of this planet.
Yes, this 100% where i stand on the whole issue!
In the 70’s the technology was not able to drill further or explore the depths of the earth.
Many geologists speculated that there were more oil cavities to be found deep into the Earth’s mantle.
No mystery!
On the open ozone layer now there saying it don’t exsist
I am still waiting on that link. (coastal flooding) You see I am open minded to hear or read all opinions regarding the subject.
Btw I am 59 years old.
All you got to do is looked it up. I’m old school of how putting link on another blog. I
Okay, I am not trying to throw in my own two cents to make today’s debate for or against Global Warming any worse but I see it different than most and it does tie into religion which most people hate this day and age and I don’t care: I believe God is allowing the weather to change as it warns of discernment of seasons and that man would eventually destroy himself in the last days. Is it all just cyclical or is Global Warming real as mankind has altered the environment beyond just normal cyclical change can allow for such short term weather change?I am not here to offend and I am not here to turn a weather blog into a religious debate either as I have friends/family that both believe and also dont believe in the Bible.
Point is, I am not fully ruling out Global Warming or just cyclical rotation, or current combination of both factors…whatever is 100% the cause, I just want my winter back and hope that I get to see one more big, widespread REAL DEAL, shut down snow over a foot coupled with a cold enough winter pattern to just keep snow on the ground a while IN KY BEFORE MY LIFE IS OVER. PREACHING OVER:)
Love your pa$$ion!!!! A spectacular closing statement.
Thanks! I have an open mind and have thought hard about this debate for years now.
