Good Wednesday, weather weenies. We’ve made it to the middle of the week and our weather is looking pretty darn nice. It’s a great time to get out and enjoy some of the gorgeous fall colors starting to show. As you’re doing that, I’m tracking a potent fall cold front set to arrive to start the upcoming weekend.

Let me begin with a brand spanking new Kentucky Weather Podcast. There’s a lot of laughing in this one as we talk about weather, haters and our taigating adventures…

Highs will be in the 70s for many with a mix of sun and clouds. Similar conditions will be noted on Thursday, but a few more clouds may sneak into the mix. Skies are mostly dry during this time.

Our cold front arrives from the west late Friday into Friday night. Winds will be gusty ahead of this boundary and temps may head toward 80 or so. A line of showers and a few thunderstorms will then sweep in from west to east along the front…

The temp crash behind this front will be dramatic and could send readings all the way into the 30s by Saturday morning, with chilly temps and a Saturday night frost threat possible…

As a fairly deep trough becomes established across the eastern half of the country, we will lock into a pretty chilly pattern next week. This is also a pattern that can develop a fairly active storm track that’s pretty far south for this time of year…

I also wanted to share the latest snow potential from the 45 day European Weeklies from WeatherBell. This takes us into the middle of November and the model is hinting at some flakes during this time as far south as Tennessee…

Obviously, that’s a cumulative map that shows everything the model things will fall in the 45 day period. It’s not mean to be taken literally, but it’s a good indicator of how the seasonal trends may be setting up. The first thing I notice is for a fairly expansive snowpack to build from the Rockies into much of Canada. That’s a good first step to get some pretty good cold shots to develop earlier than normal in November.

I will share some more winter fun in the coming days. Make it a good one and take care.
