Good Saturday everyone and thanks for starting your weekend with us. The weather over the next couple of days will be much quieter than what we had for the better part of the past few weeks. Enjoy the break because another stormy period may be brewing for next week.
Not everyone will be without booms out there today. A storm or two will go up across southern and eastern Kentucky as the rest of the state enjoys some sunshine. Highs will stay in the 80s for the central and east and hit the 90s in the far west.
The heat and humidity begin to engulf the bluegrass state again on Sunday with mid and upper 90s west to near 90 elsewhere. A pop up storm can’t be ruled out. The pattern for next week looks a lot like the week we are just wrapping up. Hot and humid air takes some jabs at us as a couple of systems work in from the north and northwest to beat it down a bit. The European Model shows this well…
As the core of the heat stays well out to our west… this leaves the door open for rounds of thunderstorms to dive in here from the northwest. That looks to especially be true for the middle and end of the week. The GFS rainfall forecast for next week shows the storm movement…
If that pattern does indeed set up… severe storms and heavy rains would again become a good bet.
Have a great Saturday and take care.
Great!!!! Looks to be another washout for Eastern Kentucky. All we need to do is add to the 8+ inches of rain that we have had in July. We have went from extreme dry in June to a super soggy July. If the above GFS forecast plays out, I wouldn’t be surprised that we could be looking at some record totals for precipitation.
Frankfort still needs plenty of that rain, maybe this time the heavy stuff shifts in our favor and gives east ky a break, but this is doubtful, better get your hip waders ready over that way!
Bob–I understand the frustration but I wouldn’t complain too much. Yes, too much rain can be dangerous (the KY river flood of 2010 and the Ohio & Mississippi River floods of 2011) but having seen the results of the wettest year on record last year (I had 80 inches of rain at my house in Lawrenceburg) and an extremely dry pattern–I much prefer too much rain as opposed to too little rain. I sympathize with those who had too much too fast, but 8 inches of rain in a month sounds pretty good to me!
