Good evening, folks. High winds and the potential for strong storms are taking center stage across the region through tonight and early Wednesday. This is the first of 2 big storm systems to impact our weather over the long Thanksgiving travel period.

The threat for severe weather is there across western Kentucky. Here’s the latest from the Storm Prediction Center…

Wind gusts of 50mph or greater will be possible tonight and Wednesday morning and that’s with or without thunderstorms. Your tracking toys have you all set to do some tracking. Be sure to check out the interactive radar to track this big storm. You can even pull up live feeds from storm chasers from the severe side and winter side of the storm…

The rain and storms end quickly from west to east early on Wednesday, but gusty winds remain. Temps will drop through the 40s in the afternoon. It’s interesting to note the HI Res NAM tries to bring a few flakes into northern and northeastern Kentucky behind the low Wednesday night…

That system bubbling up behind that in the plains may throw a shower at us late Thanksgiving, especially in the west.

A shower or two will be noted on Friday as seasonal temps continue.

The next system rolls in with heavy rain, some storms and high winds for Saturday. A dry slot looks to show up early Sunday before rain and snow dives in here from the northwest in the afternoon and evening. The flow looks to produce fairly widespread snow showers and a few squalls Sunday night and Monday. That could drop some light accumulations for parts of central and eastern Kentucky.

The poor GFS continues to try to figure it out, but it just cannot help the progressive bias. Adjust everything west, deepen the trough and drop the temps some and you are set. Notice the GFS is also picking up on the system behind this again…

Every single run of the model is vastly different from the last. The Euro is basically in the same camp, but I’m cutting the models some slack because we have talked about this being the case for a while. Way too much going on for them to handle, folks.

Enjoy the evening and take care.
