Good afternoon, folks. The morning round of winter weather put down some hit and melt coatings with a few inches across parts of the southeast. The marginal temps and wet ground did some work on the flakes. Now, we focus on the northwest flow kicking in. This will increase the snow showers and flurries through tonight and early Tuesday.
Southeastern Kentucky continues to be in the Advisory/Warning area…
The snow showers through Tuesday morning will put down more coatings across areas of central and eastern Kentucky. As the temps drop below freezing tonight, a couple of slick spots will develop.

Gusty winds make it feel much colder…
Another system dives through the Ohio Valley on Wednesday. Temps spike a bit ahead of this, then drop back down behind it. Rain and snow showers get close to the northeast as well.
Our next system shears out as it rolls eastward on Friday. That brings some chilly showers in to parts of Kentucky…
Temps are seasonally cold behind this for late Friday into Saturday.
The numbers jump late Sunday into Monday as we get ready for a modified arctic front to move in here from the northwest. This is likely to have a wave of low pressure or two along it, so we will have to see how that plays out. This could be a rain to snow setup…
The GFS is offering up some cold air behind it…

All things point to the same trends as the last couple of winters.. we will see plenty of rain, with maybe a couple of true cold shots mixed in… and snow?? Under 6 inches for the winter, and that will be scattered throughout…. mark it down folks…. trend just rolls on!
That’s what I been thinking too. One thing I get tired of looking at every Winter, that darn warm wedge over the tri-state. It stuck out like a sore thumb on radar last night and today.
It’s just now December and folks already give up, haha.
I could careless I just want 80 degree temperatures. In the meantime I’ll just suck it up and humbly wait for the next 3 to 4 months. lol
Seems there could be good shot this winter of a few good snows. Based on the past few years, nowhere to go but up. Just as long as no big ice, would call it a good winter regardless.
Here’s something that actually may be affecting our weather. Barrow AK, northernmost point , is so far ahead in the warmest year on record department, that even if they record the 2nd coldest December of -24.2 degrees, they will still at least tie the warmest year ever. By the way, the top 5 warmest years are 2019, 2016, 2017, 1998, and 2018.
Great, crappy winters. I guess you all in in Central and West KY had some ice and stuff in 1998 but was not much of a winter in East KY, although still better than these past 3 awful winters.
I am going to, somehow, force a big snow on us this winter. I can’t take it anymore;)
