Good afternoon, folks. It’s an absolutely fantastic March day for this Super Bowl Sunday. Sunny skies, mild temps and very gusty winds continue to control the day. As we roll into the week ahead, we find a very active pattern with lots of rain and the potential for winter weather showing up.
Temps this afternoon hit 60 or a bit better in many areas as winds gust to around 40mph. Skies are mostly sunny.
Clouds increase on Monday as temps stay in the 60s. Those clouds will eventually produce rain by Monday night and that’s a sign of things to come.
A slow-moving front moves into the region and stops for a few days, bringing waves of low pressure along it. This will lead to rounds of heavy rain with the potential for a little thunder. As our boundary presses a bit farther east with each passing low, we have the opportunity to get in on some winter weather, especially late in the week. It won’t take much adjustment to actually get some accumulating snow from this setup, so keep that in mind going forward.
This is something the GFS is showing…
The Canadian doesn’t see as much winter weather…
The Euro doesn’t have much snow…
It does follow it up with a snow maker next weekend…
Temps should rebound quickly with the potential for another big rain event the following week.
Have a great rest of your day and take care.
Thanks Chris. I am really enjoying this beautiful day. The sunshine sure does help to lift ones spirits! Still a bit early for plants so I hope they don’t get fooled by the taste of spring. I notice you said POTENTIAL for some winter weather toward end of the week. That would be ok too to get one accumulating snow since wexjave not seen any this winter. Of not, then I hope we have early spring as warm sunny weather. Have a great afternoon everyone. Oh yeah, it’s good to be back on the blogs,
I couldn’t agree more! Either one good snow or just go to spring/ summer!!
Glad to have you back Coffeelady.
We just can’t get any sustained cold in here this winter. If we could have four or five days like today from now until real spring I would take no snow and be happy. Not looking forward to days of rain, but that’s what it looks like we will get. If it does snow it will be gone quick.
The bright side all them polar caps that were supposed to melt and flood us already, based on the Manbearpig are getting all nice and frozen up. Again, just like they do every 30 to 50 years.
Looks like north of us this week could get ice, mix and snow. We are on the scrap flow end, once most of the moisture is out of the area.
Cold = dry, warm = wet. Not seeing anything getting us out of that as far as actual beyond an inch accumulating snow for most. Well, unless you count northern KY, which is a Cincinnati market for TV 😉
The track of some of those lows are perfect, unfortunately the air is to mild.
Has to be the perfect storm before it snows in KY.
Anyway it is a wonderful day outside.
We can’t get the cold and dry here anymore.
It’s already 63 at my place. A 70 is a real good bet tomorrow. I would also bet on the Euro and Canadien later this week.
A good snow pack north of us will only help the cause of the next lows pushing along them. Might be a weekend system like the Euro is calling for. After that it will be mid month before any other cold shots are even remotely available. What a depressing winter for snow lovers.
It’s supposed to be 70 tomorrow. But yet, the NWS forecast discussion mentions the possibility of 1-3 inches of snow on Friday. That would be great but I don’t understand how that is possible.
