Good afternoon, everyone. Heavy rain continues to come at us in waves and will only increase as we go through the day and into Wednesday. Some areas of the state are already working on more than 2″ of rain(as of noon) with flood warnings across the west. As of this writing, there are no Flood Watches anywhere in the Commonwealth.
The latest model trends continue to up the ante for flooding and flash flooding across the southern half of the state. The newer runs are targeting southeastern Kentucky with a ton of rain. The GFS has some 6″ amounts by Thursday morning…
Again, watch for the possibility of high water issues to develop.
Colder air comes in behind all this late Thursday with a period of light snow likely for Thursday night into Friday…
The GFS is also showing this and the increasing snow potential across central and eastern Kentucky with our Saturday system…
I will have the latest on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm and then again on KWC this evening. Here are your tracking tools for the afternoon…
Have a good one and take care.
At this point I really don’t care if it snows or not.
I am ready for a week of dry weather.
It has been raining here in Central Kentucky since very early this morning with very few let ups in the intensity. My front yard has standing water, and I’m on a hill ! Unbelievable ! My guess is the ground is so saturated that this has occurred and hasn’t before when we had heavy rains. My soil is very well drained without any hard pan. It’s just sad to believe this weather pattern just won’t let up. Yesterday, we had a high temperature of 72 degrees and lots of Sunshine. Nice weather if it was late April.
Actually, yesterday’s weather would be nice all year long with a temperature of 72 degrees and sunshine.
I was always told you can’t have a normal growing season if you don’t have a cold February and March.
My poor little water logged Harlan, KY home. LOL 😛
For some reason, February really brings it to Harlan and rarely misses during this month for big model forecasted rains. I will update totals later, and final by event end. Crazy, crazy February rains!
Schroeder, replying to your comment in the morning post. You are correct in that if it came out of the SW(whether it be snow, severe storms, etc), we were next in line. My aunt & uncle have lived out there since ’72, and used to be whenever they got bad weather, my aunt would call and tell us to be prepared for tornadoes or a foot of snow. We could almost count on whatever it was affecting KY sometimes as early as the NEXT DAY! I was just watching one of their news channels in Tulsa and they went into a WS Warning for tomorrow, 4-8″. And IF it verifies, then it will be the first time they’ve seen at least a 3″ snowfall in about 7 years. We were there for Christmas ’02 and they got nearly a foot in a storm when they were only calling for around 3″ or so. Last memorable White Christmas I’ve experienced. (I don’t count ankle-biters or toe-tinglers! 🙂 )
Debbie, It use to be back in the 1960’s the local weather person would see a storm developing in the Texas Panhandle and would call the low pressure the ” Colorado Low ” that would bring a major snowstorm to our area in less than two days. What is happening to our climate ? That is one thing no one has been able to answer without speculation, such as Chem trails, Climate change due to a build up of Co2 and Climate Control has actually been discuss by meteorologist. It will remain a mystery, because no one really wants to tell the truth about what is going on with the World’s Climate. Sad
Yes, I’m old enough to remember those days! Too bad they can’t go back to the old way of forecasting and hit it at least half the time, because I know these models have basically been crap the last several years and I don’t really see an improvement coming along anytime soon. (No, I’m not bashing CB or any other met!)
Actually long distance forecasting has gotten a lot better. But no where near perfect.
No, stop it. Stop spreading this nonsense. Why anyone on here takes you seriously is beyond me. We know what’s happening with climate, we have data and a well known process to support the global climate change model due to increased carbon emissions. None of the other nonsense you mentioned has any scientific support.
There is nothing wrong about being skeptical. Actually, it is healthy.
But the bro loses me when he starts bringing up chem trails I mean that starts getting into tin foil hat territory.
Although I sometimes think he brings up this nonsense just to see if he can get reaction from the readers.
It could be a game he likes to play
It’s not nonsense, but it is not factual either. Weather is just plain speculation, and sometimes I bring this to the forum for discussion only.
