Good Sunday, everyone. As hard as it is to believe, we are now in the final week of February and our weather pattern is about to crank up again. We have one system moving in from the west later today, with more of a winter looking system targeting us by Wednesday and Thursday.
Let’s start with today and then hit the fast-forward button. Temps today reach the 50s as clouds increase. Showers move into far western Kentucky this afternoon then slowly overspread the rest of the state later through tonight. Here are your radars to track the action in from the west…
Monday is a rainy day and we could even have a few rumbles of thunder making an appearance. The rain will then slow down Monday night and early Tuesday, leading to a cloudy break for much of Tuesday.
Colder air continues to dive into the area on Wednesday as another system develops just to our east. As this lifts northward through the Appalachian Mountains, some snow breaks out in our region. Will this be true system snow or just periods of snow showers that linger through Thursday?
There’s also the chance for a system to drop in behind that around Friday or Saturday.

The Canadian actually keeps the winter looking pattern going through the first few days of March…

The winter that never started looks to end this week. I’m really looking forward to enjoying outdoors and the longer daylight in the evenings. Looks like spring is going to arrive on time this year. Fire up the mowers and lay down the mulch. Won’t be long until pool time.
As I said RIP winter….come on spring.
It was a very mild 51-degree day Saturday, and it’s predicted to get close to 57 degrees under sunny skies today here in the Chicago Metro area, but then it’s back to winter for a while.
There’s already Winter Storm Watches posted for NW Illinois Monday night through Wednesday morning, with snowfalls possibly in excess of six inches. Part of the Chicago Metro area may get in on that Tuesday night into Wednesday, but where and how much is a big question.
Regardless of how much snow falls, it’s predicted to get very cold here by Wednesday night, lasting through at least next weekend.
As always, I’ll be monitoring the computer models on KWC in future updates.
LOL, seems the model trends are telling us what it is looking like. For the past four days the system for KY has gotten weaker and breaking up. This seems a north of 64 event- Particularly north of KY.
At this point, who cares….most of us are ready for spring.
Been ready for spring since December 26th.
I agree. I just hope it dries up a little along with the better temps.
