Good Tuesday, everyone. We have a pretty active setup on hand for Today and Wednesday as we track the potential for severe storms. This is ahead of a powerful cold front that wipes out the spring warmth and replaces it with a much colder look.
Let’s begin with the severe threat late today into tonight. Clusters of strong to severe storms will develop and roll from northwest to southeast across the region. Damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes will be possible. The best chance will be across northern parts of the state.
Here’s the current Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
The severe risk continues into Wednesday…
Much colder air comes in behind this with highs in the 50s for Thursday and a frost threat by Friday morning.
Another system then rolls our way with some ugly over the weekend…
The Euro then follows that up with a winter looking storm early next week…
What in the name of world wide sports is going on around here?
The Euro Ensembles continue to show a colder than normal pattern over the next few weeks…
Frost and freezing conditions look likely from time to time and I can’t rule out some rare mid April flakes. 🙁
I will have the latest on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm. Here are all your severe weather tracking tools to take you through the event…
Possible Watch Areas
Have a great Tuesday and take care.
Booo! ! Rain train and polar express?!?
Our severe weather threat for central Kentucky may come tomorrow late afternoon and maybe a second round early Thursday morning according to our local forecast. After the second cold front pushes through “Red Bud and Dogwood Winter” will be here. These late frost hardly ever cause any permanent damage to early flowering shrubs and trees, unless forecasters call for a “hard freeze warning” but, lets all hope that doesn’t happen.
The European Ensembles still think my golf league is about to kick off.
It’s the warmest day here in the Chicago area in over six months, since last October 1st! Temps are in the mid-70s in the entire area under partly sunny skies and a southerly breeze. I’m really going to enjoy my power walk in the forest preserve later on.
This is only the second 70-degree day of the year here, as it briefly hit 70 last Friday.
According to the Euro Ensembles that Chris showed on this update, the Chicago area is going to be right in the middle of a significant snow next Wednesday! It’s far from a guarantee this far out, and this is April, but it will sure be interesting to follow all the developments in the next week with that potential snow.
Flemingsburg had flakes on April 15 two years ago….I remember it distinctly as I had parking lot duty, and a softball game that night…….
The official high at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport today was 80 degrees, our first 80-degree temp since October 1st, and just four degrees shy of the all-time record of 84 degrees set way back in 1893. It hit 79 at the NWS office in the SW suburbs.
There’s currently a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for most of Northern IL, including the Chicago Metro area, until 11 PM local time. There are also currently Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for the North and NW suburbs of Chicago, but there’s a question of how far south the storms will go, as the storms are moving more east than south. In the SW suburbs, where I am, we may not see any activity at all.
What in gods name did I just see!? Snow ummm
