Some Ugly Weather Today

Good Sunday, everyone. It’s a tale of two Kentucky’s today. The western half of the state has some really nice spring weather by late today, but it’s another storm across the eastern half. That’s where we have some ugly weather with chilly temps and gusty showers into the evening.

With better weather on the way for the start of the new week, I wanted to also take a look at the long range for May. I will get to that in a bit.

Let’s begin with what’s cracking out there today. As mentioned, showers in the west wind down, but areas of central and eastern Kentucky will continue with gusty showers through the evening…

Temps in this region may not get out of the 40s. Where the sun comes out across the western half of the Commonwealth, temps should reach the 60s.

Everyone will get in on the 60s for Monday as we enjoy a mix of sun and clouds. There’s a slight storm chance Monday night into early Tuesday as much warmer air surges in here. That boosts out Tuesday temps deep into the 70s.

Strong storms are possible Tuesday night into early Wednesday as another potent system moves in. This looks to slow down right on top of us and keep some ugly and cool weather into Thursday…

Temps will rebound from that by Friday into next weekend and I wouldn’t be surprised to see us take a shot at 80 in the first week of May. Unfortunately, this looks like a very stormy week and there’s a decent severe signal showing up from this far out.

As we continue to look farther down the weather road, we find the European Weeklies now going out through the first week of June. The model has our average temperature from now through June 7th being normal to a touch below…

That same time period also looks very wet and stormy with well above normal rainfall…

That really doesn’t come as a big shock, but it could signal a very busy severe weather month for May. It’s the traditional peak of our severe weather season, so that’s something to keep in mind. There’s also some indication of some early season tropical action trying to develop.

Enjoy the day and take care.

I’m not buying the cool part yet.

In all fairness, Chris only mentioned cool weather in the short term. His long range indicated “normal or a touch below”, which may include a good deal of storms. That just means seasonal temps to me.

I know, this weather pattern is very similar to pacific northwest. I find it absolutely awful. depressing me to the point of medication lol

Is there a long, long, long term outlook that shows us maybe getting a drought pattern? Seems like it has done nothing but rain for the last 10 years.

Yesterday was the rainiest day of the month here, with .86 inches of rain falling at the NWS forecast office in Romeoville in the SW suburbs. Meantime, just .19 inches of rain fell at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport.

It’s a much better day today with sunny skies, temps in the low 60s with a cool north wind. I’m going to enjoy my hike in the forest preserve today for sure!
