Good Monday, folks. We are coming off a super-soaker of a weekend as showers and thunderstorms put down tremendous amounts of rain. Unfortunately, more rounds of showers and storms are rumbling across the region for the next few days. That keeps our flood threat and flash flood threat going.
We will continue to see more rounds of showers and storms developing and working from northwest to southeast across the area through the next few days, at least. Flash Flood Watches should be extended for much of the state…
Some areas have already picked up 4″-8″ of rain since Saturday, so it simply won’t take much to cause additional flooding issues.
Unfortunately, that’s exactly what we will be seeing out there today and into Tuesday. Here are the areas most at risk…
The NAM Rainfall Forecast through Wednesday is a pretty good match for that…
No, it’s not going to rain all the time, but it’s going to absolutely open up when it does. The clusters of thunderstorms may not fire up over the exact same areas as before, but repeat action will be possible.
This whole setup has been covered extensively on KWC for much of the past week or so. While the rest of the local weather world was fixated on dust, we’ve been busy preparing you for the potential of too much rain. That’s why you guys come here… right? 🙂
Rounds of showers and storms continue into Wednesday, but the action may become much more scattered for the 4th of July weekend. It looks like typical summertime readings with high humidity levels. .
Here are your start of the holiday work week tracking tools…
Possible Watch Areas
Have a wonderful final Monday of June and take care.
Too much rain. Bleh.
Thanks Chris, I’am guilty as an “arm chair meteorologist” by bringing up the Sahara Desert dust cloud, but I feel every event that occurs in our atmosphere should be mentioned. Yes, you were right on with your prediction of the current rainy pattern. In my county of Taylor the rain hasn’t been that heavy compared to areas just to my northwest where up to six inches fell. I hope those folks are not flooded out. Have a nice day.
No apostrophe in I am.
Is it possible to have a dusty atmosphere and heavy rain at the same time? LOL
I just wonder if that desert dust was loaded with beneficial micro and macro nutrients for all the Farms, forest and home gardens. If so we may have a better than average growing season ?
Gotta say for WKY Sat and Sun turned out much better than expected.
BuT tHe DuSt!!!
I have not viewed this forum in quite a while, but what do I find? Yet another insensitive remark aimed toward an albeit smaller segment of our population. While you may not appreciate that dust is weather also, can affect a person’s “life and property”, emphasis on life especially for that segment of our population most affected, your exaggerated opinion about “fixation” is not necessary. We get it that dry and dusty are not nearly sexy enough for you than wet and wild, but think of EVERYONE who is affected by weather, including those few that could even be affected by Saharan dust coming from some 6000 miles away. If you prefer wet and wild, so be it, but there’s no need to denigrate those that prefer to talk about dust. If you would have just left out the fixation remark, your post would have been just fine. But, you are who you are, and you just cannot resist.

The comment was aimed at the weather community that was so focused on dust they didn’t even talk about flooding rains. Flooding is the number ONE severe weather killer in the world. BTW… no one says you ever have to visit this site. If you don’t like what I have to say, go listen to the dust folks. 🙂 Take care.
I think I’ll change my name on here to “Dust Folk” LOL
I don’t see why a delay in posting a comment will make this blog site anymore secure than what it was before. Of course, what do I know I’m just one of those “Dust Folk.” LOL
Mike S, Chris has delayed his comment posting for security. This same thing happened to me a few week’s back. He really needs to secure his blog all the way.
Mike S, I agree, some people have breathing problems and I’m one of them. Chris should have not brought this up about the Sahara Dust and I am not sorry I did in an earlier post. It is a meteorological subject and I feel there should have been more discussion as it will affect tropical storm development in the Atlantic. I expect a revised forecast will be out later by the Hurricane Center to “down play” the number of storms this season. A good thing.
Leave it to Chris to forecast dust. I’m surprised we didn’t have a dust storm warning with several inches forecasted. Lots of rain predicted today, but I’m like everyone else, where is it????? More forecasted tomorrow, but will it come????? I have outdoor work to plan, but can’t because of the incompetent forecasts. I cut hay a couple of weeks ago, along with everyone else, with 4 full days of dry weather forecasted, but it rained 3 of those days, ruining countless hay crops. All thanks to the boy that cried wolf.
You are too stupid to insult.
Chris, you or anyone else should never call an individual stupid.
TV mets in Louisville saying Kentucky needs the rain to help with the drought. What? A few local areas In the state have had below normal rainfall this month (including Lexington), but it isn’t really dry, let alone drought talk? I’m all for discussing abnormal dryness / drought when warranted, but come on, even I have to admit using the D word right now is absurd.
“While the rest of the local weather world was fixated on dust, we’ve been busy preparing you for the potential of too much rain. That’s why you guys come here… right? ”
That’s offensive? That’s out of line? What am I missing? Wow!! Just Wow!
It’s been raining extremely hard in Bardstown for about an hour, and it slows down, only for it to start again only about 17 times HARDER-backbuilding to the N/NW. I live right outside of town(proper), our street is quite elevated, but it looks like we’re living beside a river right now. Power went out about 5 minutes ago, keeps flickering. It was raining pretty bad this morning around 2:40am, sounded like the metal roof was being sheared off, but that was NOTHING compared to right now. WOW!
Crazy rain totals across the Louisville area today. Over 5 inches in the southeastern part of Louisville / Jefferson Country and barely a drop across the southwest parts. Lots of flash-flooding in eastern sections of Jefferson County.
Bailey is a drama queen. Always has been lol. If you look back over the last 10 years he is a broken record…. always cold cold cold in the Summers with rain rain rain….Always oversold forecasts in the winters. Dont believe me? Look at the always BS forecasts every Summer and report back. Lol
Keep on doing what you are doing. I have not been on here in a while. Appreciate what you do, CB. Thanks for updates. My family is fully expecting a blizzard for winter 2020. When it comes, remember my post and that we will be reading your blog!
